Divorced couple arrested for shoplifting with kids in Fukuoka
FUKUOKA —
A 33-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting on Thursday, after he tried to meet his ex-wife who had already been arrested for the theft in mid-April. The pair are accused of stealing goods while in a shopping center in Nogata City with their two sons – one an elementary school student and the other who is in kindergarten.
Daigo and Reiko Minami, both unemployed, filed for divorce in February but continued to live together in Yukuhashi City. They are suspected of stealing a cooking set and three other items worth roughly 77,000 yen in total, on the afternoon of April 2.
Reiko was arrested for the theft on April 17, when she walked into a pawn shop whose owner happened to be talking to police on the phone about stolen items. Police rushed to the shop and arrested Reiko for shoplifting. She has admitted to the allegation and told police that she had stolen goods to get by since she became unemployed in 2006. Daigo has denied the allegation, police said.
