TOKYO —
Police arrested a 42-year-old doctor Wednesday for allegedly snatching a handgun from a police officer and firing off a bullet on a street in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward but nobody was injured in the incident, the police said.
The officer was trying to stop the doctor, identified as Hiroshi Ogino, and his wife quarreling when the incident took place at around 8:15 a.m., according to police. Charges against the suspect include robbery and obstruction of official duty, they said.

What is it with Doctors and guns in Japan? Remember last year another idiot Doctor in Meguro left a loaded gun in a room with his 2 boys in? One boy shot and killed his brother.
Anyway, this loser will be out of harms way for a few years I hope.

cupidstunt, my first reaction was the opposite- Whats it with the JCops and THEIR guns? It seems a 6 year old could swipe one from one of these laughingstocks. Try that in just about any other country and see where it gets you...

Kinda ridiculous for these J-cops to have guns when they have to have permission to use them! I think it's high time the NPA took a serious review of the need for officers to carry guns here. Also, I can't ever recall a female police officer being allowed to carry a gun here....nice to know Japan still considers itself an equal opportunity employer eh!

My daughter carried one every working day for two years until she was promoted out of the koban.
She says it and the bulletproof vest that went with it were darned heavy, and she's glad she's rid of it now.

What kind of training does a Japanese Police officer go through to have the weapon taken from them. The police officer should have to answer some tough questions.

J-Cops and guns... hahaha. They should instead be issued with Hello Kitty rubber bullets. On the other hand, don't confuse regular jcops with the Special Assault Team -- those guys would seriously kick your butt if you tried anything stupid.
