Domestic abuse charges dropped against Ai Kago's husband

The Tokyo District Court has dropped a case of domestic abuse against the husband of former Morning Musume singer Ai Kago.

According to police, Kago's husband Haruhiko, 47, allegedly beat the 27-year-old former idol singer at their apartment in Roppongi on May 12, Sports Nippon reported Wednesday. Kago suffered injuries that took 10 days to heal. Her husband was charged with assault on June 9.

However, on Tuesday, the Tokyo District Court announced that all charges would be dropped and that the case would not be going to trial. No reason for the decision was provided.

Hope her father slaps him around a bit and gets the charges dropped. I'll donate to that.

Let's hope she was paid off not to proceed and not intimidated into it.

Japanese authorities are remarkably reluctant to prosecute DV, prosecuting only at the victim's insistence, and even then the victim is expected to mediate.

An acquaintance of mine was beaten to within an inch of her life by her husband - something which would be attracting a GBH or even attempted murder rap in the West - and yet that "man" hasn't spent a day in jail.

Even more bizarrely, she moved back in with him.

No reason for the decision was provided? Is that even possible?

Isn't this guy a yakuza? That's the reason why.

For all we know she staged her own beating to try to blame it on the hubby.

How do you stage your own beating?

Seen it all before.

Have you now. Supporting sources please.

I've just read up on Ai Kago: the woman is a basket case. She has a history of self-destructive behaviour, and it doesn't look like it will end well for her or her daughter.

You would be too if you were raised to believe that the Morning Musume ethos was life's one and true path.

Ai Kago has always been a bit of a mess. Has had a history of "incidents". Marrying this yak 20 years older was a risky venture.

Charges were dropped because Ai Kago withdrew her complaint to police.

Definitely sends the wrong message. If he was arrested on criminal charges, I don't see how they can just be dropped without clear evidence, irrespective of the grovelling that the wife was expected to make. Not a good day for either transparency or equality in law.

Precisely. Which is precisely why DV is treated as a joke in this country. Do these cretins not understand that the husband's violence could easily influence the wife's decision not to press charges, along the lines of "When I get out of jail, I'm gonna put you in a body bag"?

He beat her like she was his child not his wife!!

misunderstood

What, so that makes it ok?

If there is evidence of a crime the police should prosecute, regardless of what the victim wants. I'm not sure why they allow this gangster to roam freely anyway.
