A 57-year-old man being investigated on a charge of possession of illegal drugs, who escaped from police by stealing a taxi in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, on Feb 6, has turned himself in a police station.

Police said that Kenji Fumi, accompanied by a friend, surrendered to authorities at a police station at 7 p.m. on Saturday night, TBS reported Sunday.

On Feb 6 at around 8 a.m., two police officers had gone to Fumi's 4th-floor apartment. But before they could enter, Fumi threatened them with a knife and ran out onto the street where he commandeered a waiting taxi. The 67-year-old woman driver got out and Fumi drove away.

The empty taxi was found an hour later in a parking lot about two kilometers away.

Well at least the lady taxi driver won't get a ticket for "illegal parking..."

so he ran away and then turned himself in? Maybe so the evidence in his apartment could in the meantime be disposed of?
