A 57-year-old man and his 56-year-old wife died on Thursday from serious wounds inflicted by a knife, and at this point it appears the woman stabbed her husband before stabbing herself, police said.
Yuji Miura and his wife Toshiko lived on the second floor of an apartment in Suginami Ward. Police said they received a call from a female resident on the third floor at around 7.15 a.m. The woman told police she heard a man below asking someone to call an ambulance, and when she looked down from her balcony, she saw the man covered in blood on his balcony. She also said the couple had been arguing since about 7 a.m.
The pair were rushed to hospital but were both pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Yuji was stabbed several times in his chest, and a bloodied knife was found near his body. Toshiko was found in the living room with a knife still in her chest. Police said the apartment door was locked.

57 is elderly? What happened to 60 is the new 40?

I gotta agree with Spudman.

Just what I was going to say spud, I guess the monkeys typing at their keyboards didn't get lucky this time.

"Elderly" is 20 years more than whatever age you happen to be. Gramps.
dr_jones
In Japan you're old when you're over 30!
telecasterplayer
JT, the overwhelming consensus is that 57 AIN'T FRIGGIN ELDERLY.

What spudman said, and what taj said and what proxy said and what telecasterplayer said. Not what Nessie said and not what dr_jones said. Young whippersnappers.

at 57 you would assume people become more civil but here we can assume that Toshiko killed Yuji over money, as if it was Yujis fault there is a recession, and they were struggling. Toshiko should have just taken a trip to Aokigahara (青木ヶ原)

According to the World Health Organization, developed countries have accepted the chronological age of 65 years as a definition of "elderly."
Also according to research published by Dr Hajime Orimo, University of Health Science, Yamanashi "elderly" defines someone over the age of 65.

Its funny everyone is talking about 57 being elderly or not, but the story is about a man and his wife dieing (murder/suicide).

Damn this issue must have been brewing for sometime for the missus to knife him down... Another woman maybe? Couldn't have been just money.

Well, who cares if a 50+ will be called elderly anyway. Compare to teenagers eyes, i'm elderly with my 47 years. Compare to my eyes, someone over 60 is elderly... Ahh, the case, I guess this conflict between the two started long time before and it ended in the final clash. Astonishing, that the wife became that fury to kill her husband...

I guess its time to outlaw kitchen knives!

I want to know if this woman actually called for the ambulance. Any wagers? I can just imagine...
(Screams of torturous murder)
Neighbour: Eh? Doshiyo? Tabun nanimo kikimasendeshita.
Dying Man: Help! Help! Help! Call me a frigging ambulance... I AM DYING!!!
(Sound of hair dryer)
Neighbour: Kyo no lunchi nani ga taberu kana?
(Gurgles of a suppurating wound fade into the morning mist)
