Man stabbed to death in hospital; son dies in apparent suicide afterward

A 59-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen by an unknown assailant while he was in his hospital bed in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture, at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, police said. The victim was transferred to another hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to Chiba prefectural police, about 20 minutes after the man’s death, his 33-year-old son was found dead on the street around a kilometer away from the hospital, having apparently jumped from the top of a nearby building. The son had been seen visiting his father earlier in the night. Police believe he committed suicide but have not said whether they think the son might have killed his father.
