kudos to the resident who came to the rescue.i rarely see/hear of such brave act here in japan. may this wacko be caught immediately as there have been a similar case already.
really makes u think what goes on in some of these guys' head. killing someone over a conflict is bad enough but i just cant seem to understand the rate of multiple random killings in japan
This is a terrible crime and I pray for the family of the deceased woman. Good on the neighbor who tried to stop this mayhem and save a life.
I think what needs to be done in Japan is to amend the constitution to ban the sale of knives, and to heavily regulate them so that it will be harder for people to use them in crimes such as these. If this is done, just like the attempts in America to ban firearms, I think Japan would be safer. Then you would not have people running around and randomly stabbing people in public places like malls, or attacking elderly or children. Control the knives, and due to our good nature of being humans we will all get along. And only the outlaws will have them so it will be much easier for the police to find them.
Not trying to make light of this situation, but this just shows that it is not the weapon (knife in this case) that causes harm, but the person who uses it. There can never be a way to stop someone from using anything around to hurt someone. What I think really needs to be done sad to say is after the fact. In cases like this, once the suspect is apprehended and a fair trial is conducted weighing all the evidence and if he is found guilty beyond a doubt, his punishment should be hard and severe, up to and including a quick death penalty. Only by showing that if you do these types of actions and are caught, the results will be quick and hard. Make the consequences of your actions be a deterrent to your crime.

hmmm, bit tricky that eh? well thats a polite way of saying that is an impossible and ridiculous suggestion.

only outlaws will have knives? what planet are you living on man? one where we are all hugging each other and only chefs are allowed to have a knife in their home.

seems you came to your senses for a while here, well before the death penalty bit...
lipscombe,
My comments about knife control and all of us getting along were just sarcasm. Not trying to make light of this crime at all. But just to present it the same as people do with the anti-gun rhetoric.
Whether it be with a gun or a knife, someone can get killed. It is not the weapon that does it (yes they are the insturment being used) but it is the person behind the weapon that makes the decision to kill someone. NO matter how much legislation we put out there, there will all ways be people among us who will kill, either willfully or unintenionally.
I hope that this guy when they catch him does not try to say it was voices in his head or he just wanted to stab someone. If he really had such a desire to stab someone, he should have done himself. Have they caught this creep yet?

Wow. This happened on my street. Got home from work at 9:30 to find my road had been taped off with the police and media swarming around like flies.

At least someone responded and tried to overpower the attacker. Most people would do either nothing or act like they heard nothing.

its a shame that the hero who ran to her rescue didnt crush the guy. obviously 125 Japanese cops would also have very little chance.

May the victim rest in peace.

A lady such as this did not deserve to have her life snuffed out in such a violent and evil way. I pray they will catch this killer and hang him.
May she rest in peace.
