in japan, a false accusation is enough to put you in jail. that's why the accuseds usually pay up so quickly. without money, you shouldn't expect just treatment.

Maybe my Japanese is not so good, but I don't see where you got "burn in hell, burn in hell and die" out of this

That's what I was going to say. The translation started off ok. In fact, I wish more victims would say something like this.

Yeh, recently, whenever the trains get crowded in the a.m. (ha ha, any day it isn't), they announce, "naka hodo" please move to the center of the train to allow for more people in. And as you make an effort to do so, the women in your way of the open space in the middle (no pun intended) suddenly flinch their elbows and scowl like your after them. One actually elbowed me as I was making my way through. I got ticked off and told her in Japanese, "hiji tsukawanai de kure yo, naka hodo haite kudasai to announce shiteru desho?" Talk about being between a rock and a hard place.

lieutenant - very impressed that you can read an d write in kanji, but this is an emglish posting page. So stop showing off. Wanna see my sanskrit?

Sorry to see the woman involved only got a suspended sentence, far too much of this goes on and has done for so long. Most men, including me, would be better of paying the Y50.000 fine at the station rather then pleading innocent and spending the next 23 days and who knows how many months more in prison while the cops force a confession out of you. Meanwhile, lose job, income and life.

Funny. That's about 5 1/2 years longer than what a groper would get for actually molesting a woman on a train. Good thing the justice system has its priorities straight.

Glad to see paranoia is alive and well in Japan. In the early 80s the Janglish word 'sekuhara had just been coined. The sardine cans were rife with chikan taking recreational rides. You've come a long way, Baby.

They should come up with His'n and Her'n train cars. But, which would the transvestites use?

Ladies, if you're riding in a women-only rail car don't stand next to that lady with the Adam's apple and beard!

Sorry to see the woman involved only got a suspended sentence, far too much of this goes on and has done for so long.

Hmm yes well thanks for your two yen and superficial understanding of the circumstances of the case and resulting decision.

    《裁判官は、阪田被告の自首によって被害者の男性の無実が晴らされたことにも一定の理解を示した。

The judge acknowledged that the woman voluntarily coming forward contributed to his innocence being proven.

The woman has also paid compensation, is recovering from depression and has attempted suicide (sic), and I think the statements from the victim himself carry more significance than yours Simon, his being he is glad the sentence was suspended for her, that a compromise has been met, and hopes she'll think hard about what she's done and considers it a period of probation, and recovers from her illness.

    男性「執行猶予が付いてよかった。刑の重さとしても妥当ではないか。執行猶予の間は謹慎期間だと思って反省してもらい、親元で早く病気を治して社会に復帰してもらいたい。

I don't see why people get so pissy when people post the original Japanese text for the (usually poorly) translated articles. This site is news about Japan in English. Most of the people reading this site have some connection with Japan, and many are living in Japan. If you get that worked up when you see some kana, maybe you're in the wrong country. And if this was a Middle Eastern news site, then I would not think anything if I saw a bit of Sanskrit here and there.

Whats the differnce between a groper and one of the "up skirt" videocamera dudes I keep reading about in relation to fines/jailtime for the crimes? Anyone know?

  • dennis0bauer at 03:43 PM JST - 27th October

5.5 years that is more than some murders get

  • ca1ic0cat at 10:30 PM JST - 27th October

Yeah, I'm rather surprised by the length of the sentence. Seems rather excessive based on typical Japanese standards of 3 years for most offenses that don't involve death or mutilation. But I'm not the judge and I don't have all the information so I'll let it ride without further comment.

False accusation is equal to fraud. I 'm glad he got the time and the poor little lady that is sic and recovering I wish she'd have just been successful with her attempt. I have no pity for these kind of losers who conspire to steal money from people. We don't need these types around.

Still no word on what they mean by "ex-college student". If I scammed someone, I doubt I'd be described as an ex-college student, despite having gone to college.
