The Sapporo District Court gave a suspended prison sentence Friday to a former senior land ministry official. Wow, there's a surprise - senior official=suspended sentence in Japan. What do people have to do to get jail time in this country? How do you expect to deter crime when there's no consequence?

It is waisting of time to print such article, we are all aware how justice in Japan is lined up for such people. Yes I agree that he should be beaten with heavy 'BAMBOO' stick in a very dark room.

There are no uncorrupted Government types in Japan. The ones that have the type of moral fiber to not take bribes etc are forced out due to being judged untrustworthy by their peers. I can fully understand why the Chinese shoot their corrupt Government types. Its a shame Japan does not have a Military strong man like Perez or Chavez to overthrow the government and imprison the lot of them.

Reminds me of a cartoon in the New Yorker magazine in which the Judge tells the accused that you have been convicted of bid-rigging, fixing prices and bribing government officials. "Warrington Trently, step forward for the ceremonial tapping on the wrist."
The prosecution must appeal this sentence on the grounds that the Judge gave "insufficient consideration to the aspect of deterrence."

What a joke.... Japan is completely corrupt, and it's no wonder kids these days know they can do pretty much anything in their youth and get off scott free. Look at whom they have as role-models?

"ensuring life security"
There is no such thing. Any one of us could get cancer or get hit by a truck ( or more likely a taxi ) at any time.

Anybody think the sentence would be anything else.

The only thing that`s gets people thrown in the joint these days is a Joint! This case is the perfect example that the law is a joke...

And I bet the 'river improvement' scheme wasn't even necessary in the first place.
