Wow, Goto jail, do not pass go!

Did he get most of the 5 1/2 years for stealing the cable or EE jumping the guard?

man, 5.5 years seems pretty harsh!

Do Judges not use precedence while considering sentencing?

I think a big part of it is how much remourse you show at the trial. Apparently, Goto's performance was lacking. That, and it's more than theft. He assaulted a man also.

remorse? the guy punched a guard in the face and stole some expensive cables. no matter how you look at the situation, its laughable compared to punishment award by the judicial system for more serious crimes. i guess those other criminals said sorry and dropped a few tears.

5 1/2 years makes you think twice about stealing cable. When I read the headline I thought it ment he was stealing cable tv..

I think he was jailed for so long as to thwart any attempt at a life of crime in recording this rubbish

He was caught when he called Skapa to complain that he wasn't picking anything up on his cable.

This is a pretty sad story. This is just a young guy who got off to a promising start and the fell in with the wrong crowd after his father died. Obviously he needs something to set him straight but 5 1/2 years in prison for stealing a bunch of cables seems very harsh. No doubt he's being made an example out of because of his high-profile.

yeah he should have just killed a kid and got the three year sentence. Sounds like he got the idea from the sopranos and was going to sell it back to the place he stole it.

DXXP, I was thinking the same thing. Some guys kill children and only get 1 - 3 years. Goto stole some cables and gets 5 plus?

  • Pukey2 at 08:48 AM JST - 23rd May

This guy is only in his early 20's at the most, isn't he? According to wiki, he's expecting his THIRD child.

  • telecasterplayer at 11:49 AM JST - 23rd May

Actually, I was relieved to read that breaking and entering and battery were involved. Because jt's headline, "stealing cable".. well I thought 5+ years is a little harsh for trying to get "The Cartoon Network-Japan" would be a little harsh.

  • smithinjapan at 05:33 PM JST - 23rd May

Japan sentencing really is a mystery; this guy gets a VERY heavy penalty for stealing some cable and hitting a guy, while the city official who killed three babies while driving drunk only gets a couple more years... and THAT may even be appealed! THey should just send them both into Thunderdome and see who walks out.
