Fake delivery man robs 71-year-old woman

A 71-year-old woman was tied up by a bogus delivery man who then stole about 90,000 in cash from her apartment in Tokyo, police said Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 6 p.m. on Monday at the woman's apartment in Itabashi Ward. Fuji TV reported that the man, holding a box, rang the doorbell and told the woman he had a special delivery for her. When she opened the door, he forced his way in and threatened her with a knife. He covered her eyes with tape and bound her hands and legs and demanded money. When the woman said she had none, he took her purse with 90,000 yen in it and fled.

The woman was found by a newspaper delivery man on Tuesday morning. Police said she was traumatised and suffered injuries that will take about two weeks to heal.

Police said the woman told them the man was wearing what looked like a delivery company uniform and that he was in his 20s and about 170 cms tall.

I despise people who prey on the elderly. My then-83-year-old grandmother was once knocked down by a punk who stole her handbag. She was badly shaken, although not hurt. But the damage was done to her trusting nature. She was always afraid to go shopping by herself after that.

I despise people who prey on the elderly.

I second that! Just as I despise people who prey on little children.

I despise people who prey on other people, regardless of age, whether it's the violent robber or the other robbers who are backed by the threat of violence but wear the suit of tax collector.

Moderator: Please repost without the reference to tax collector which is not relevant.

What a despicable crime! It's really unpardonable that such a young lad robs a 71 year-old elderly woman by disguising as a delivery man i.e.宅配業者.

Hope police make a prompt arrest, above all, she gets back on her feet soon.

Wow...that's pretty brazen!

Hope they find the guy and hang him by the scruff of his neck for a while. Only a pathetic coward would prey on the elderly and indigent like this.

Two weeks for healing? Was the tape over her eyes that bad?

The guy was a loser and will be caught.

Two men in fake takkyubin uniforms got into (actress) Yamaguchi Tomoko's home a number of years ago. She wasn't home alone though, so the men ran off. I hope they can catch this man.

Time for women living alone especially the elderly in Japan to get the SECOM, keychain GPS alert device. If SECOM calls the fuzz, they come in a jiffy!

I want this jerk caught, slapped upside the head, threatened with a knife, blindfolded, bound, left like that for 24 hours, then sentenced to hard labor for a few years.

Must have been desperate to do such a thing for so little reward. I wonder how he'll feel about the risk/payoff when he's sitting in a nice cold jail cell. He should have just gotten a job...

I am beyond shocked that this kind of incident would ever occur in Japan being that Japan along with Singapore is one of the safest countries in the world. Perhaps Japan should begin emulating Singapore in regards to consequences for these horrible acts. If Japan emulated Singapore, these types of incidents would be less likely to occur. Nothing like this ever occurs in Singapore. Lets hope that horrible individual suffers severe consequences (a caning would be nice).

"Nothing like this ever occurs in Singapore"

Because Singapore is IN FACT a safe country whereas in the la-la land of political propaganda...

Japan is a law-abiding country with a low-crime rate!!
