Firefighter scalds girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter

Police in Sakura, Tochigi Prefecture, have arrested a firefighter on suspicion of scalding his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter last month.

The suspect, Reiji Suzuki, a 20-year-old firefighter at Yaita Fire Department, is suspected of physically assaulting the child by scalding her back at their residence in Sakura City on Feb 23, Fuji TV reported. Doctors said the girl's injuries will take about six weeks to heal.

The incident came to light when the mother, 22, came home from work and noticed the burns on her daughter's body. She took the girl to the hospital. Doctors were suspicious that burns were spread over the child's body from her back to legs and notified police. Police believe that Suzuki poured boiling water on the girl, but he has denied the charge.

Suzuki was initially arrested on March 3 on suspicion of physically assaulting his girlfriend with a pair of scissors.

Eye for an eye, no sympathy for someone who tortures a baby.

A firefighter burning a baby?

Throw away the key this sick individual needs to put away for eternity....

It doesn't matter if he did it or not. When one is placed alone with a child... one accepts responsibility for anything that occurs.

Suzuki was initially arrested on March 3 on suspicion of physically assaulting his girlfriend with a pair of scissors.

And after this you will leave him alone with your 18 month old daughter? It seems to me that this girl needs to get far far away from him.

What a pig! How could anyone abuse a small child. Baffles the mind.

Hey, guys, maybe he had stress and mental disability, right? If it was the woman who did it that's what you'd all be saying now. Just pointing that out.

In any case, lock him up. The woman should have left him before (and maybe was trying to) when he assaulted her with scissors earlier this month. At least it has not escalated further this time before the guy was arrested (for now...).

Moderator: Please repost without the first paragraph which is irrelevant. There is no "you'd all."

What an excuse for a human being, maybe they should investigate the fires he has been sent of to extinguish.

The baby did not scald itself. If he did not do it on purpose, he is still responsible.

Wow, again. How many times have I read about young people attacking, bullying, hitting kids/babies? There must be a serious problem with mental instability and/or insecurity here, for I can't recall hearing about this as much as I hear about it in Japan. I believe many young men here do have problems with role models. They think they have to be tough, but toughness is mistaken for meanness. Also, Japan is a society that feeds off the weak and the easy targets, and what can be an easier target than a baby? A person like this is likely bullied at work and in combination with a juvenile mind confuses the best way to find an outlet for repressed feelings. We will read about this again, and again.

What a nut case

Suzuki poured boiling water on the girl,

What a dreadful firefighter! Now he has ended up in hot water. I wish the girl child a complete and speedy recovery.

This Suzuki guy is lunatic. How did he ever become a firefighter? I thought you had to be of good moral character. After all, firefighters save lives.

what a low life! coward, taking advantage to harm some one that can not fight back. lock in jail or nut house rest of his life.

Somebody lock this weasel in a room with me and give us one hour. I'd show him what its like to be locked up with someone who has no mercy.

What a monster!

I say life in prison with solitary confinement for this scumbag. People like him should not be allowed to roam around free. One of these days, he's going to kill somebody.

Please put your child in a daycare honey, your baby is much safer than a guy you just met and assaulted you with a scissor.

"One of these days, he's going to kill somebody"

He just did.

He has just DESTROYED this little girl's life. He has killed her SPIRIT and her SOUL, probably leaving her SCARRED FOR LIFE.

These people are not random in their TORTURE. They know what they are doing...

Because it was probably done to him!!

@fuben. You're right, we do read about these kinds of stories too often. However, it also happens in Australia too often as I'm sure it does elsewhere.

Meanwhile, back in the real world...

What he said was: "I can't recall hearing about this AS MUCH AS I hear about it IN JAPAN"

What he said was: "I can't recall hearing about this AS MUCH AS I hear about it IN JAPAN"

Which is entirely a meaningless statement, as there are all sorts of reasons why one may not have heard about it as much in other countries as in Japan.

@godfather. And I said TOO OFTEN as in I also hear these kinds of stories TOO OFTEN in Australia. Not sure which country has the greater number of incidents. Then again we are talking about a population of about 126 million versus 22 million. I could have made mention about the post's generalisations that young Japanese men do have problems with role models or that there must be a serious problem with mental instability and insecurity in Japan. "Meanwhile, back in the real world"...? Are you the star in your own movie or something?
