Police in Gifu said Tuesday they have arrested a former associate university professor for allegedly killing an acquaintance and trying to make it look like a suicide.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Teruo Hisano, 54, was a former associate professor at a university in Gifu. TV Asahi quoted police as saying that in January 2012, Hisano killed 40 year-old company president Hironori Ohara by forcing him to inhale a fatal amount of hydrogen sulfide inside his car. Police said Hisano has denied the charge.
Police said their investigation showed that Hisano, who was a specialist in Chinese politics and economics, had dealings with Ohara's company and accrued a large amount of debt while managing language schools.
Police believe Hisano was attempting to get Ohara's insurance payout in order to pay off his debt.

Same thing happened in a case back in the late 1980s where a person defrauded the insurance companies by claiming to be someone else, and then killed that someone else to obtain the payout. A creative attorney I know sued the insurance companies for being so gullible and negligent in allowing such an easily-detectable fraud to be perpetrated on them. A little investigation can reveal who anyone is. The lawyer won that case for his client, the victim's family. Granted that may not fly in Japan...although it should.

Ohara: Man, my hay fever is killing me. Hisano: I got just the thing, take a whiff of this it'll unplug ya.
