Foster mother arrested for piercing 7-year-old daughter with pin in Hokkaido

A 68-year-old foster mother has been arrested for piercing her 7-year-old adopted daughter with a pin in Hokkaido, police said Friday. Yasuko Nemoto was arrested for allegedly piercing the back of her foster daughter’s head with a pin last October. The daughter’s school reported the case to a local child consultation center.

According to police, Nemoto has a more than 30-year career as a foster mother and has raised seven children, including the 7-year-old girl. Nemoto is also a human rights advocate and case worker in the local community. The girl has been raised by Nemoto since March of 2006, police said.

Nemoto told police she used the pin as a disciplinary measure.

I agree with the misleading headline - piercing means going all the way through. If you pierce someone's head, it means the pin comes out the other side, which would be fun to see.

The title is grammatically incorrect. In order to pierce a girl, you'd need to run her through. She pierced the skin on the back of the girls head.

Although headlines are supposed to grab attention, they aren't supposed to bend the truth like this one does

pierce doesnt neccessarily mean run through from one side to other, pierce means to penetrate, like armor piercing rounds dont usually go in one end and out the other. Any penetration of skin sounds like abuse to me, but i know they system, she wont do anytime, maybe pay a fine, get her 15 mins of fame in the news, and go back to abusing children. How sad. . .

Most people would think of ear piercing if you have the words mother, girl, and piercing. Besides the story doesn't correctly describe the injury to the girl. Did the pin pierce the back of the head like one would pierce the nose for a nose ring? It also most be been larger than a pin for a teacher to notice. Was the piercing done by a knitting needle. Too much is left for the imagination. The writer gets a F since the article is too ambiguous. Armor piercing means to penetrate or pass through armor. Maybe she was doing some body piercing, body art?
