aerockyulhim, yes violent porn is not doubt a factor in many rapes and gang rapes. But it is a factor in a sea of factors. I think the far bigger factor is that the people who do this could have been triggered by a whole slew of things. You have to be on another planet mentally to have missed the fact that rape and gang rape are illegal. Such people are a danger regardless of the porn. I believe most people are actually cooled out by the violent porn and get to learn various fine points about such interaction. Far more dangerous are those who do not understand the interaction at all or what will make someone hurt or humiliated. In other words, if you only have a positve education, how will you know something is negative until you have done it, when it is too late?

We should never legislate in a restrictive way just because of a few idiots out there. See my suggestion for a warning label placed on violent porn.

As for your assertion about a lack of education, I have to ask what proof you have of that? Junior high school kids have "moral education" as a regular class. Not as regular as math, but still regular and constant. I don't know how often or directly they teach that "rape is wrong", but I cannot imagine it never comes up.

Just trading all the posts here and thought I'd get myself flame too. Jporn is often different from western, there is a lot more violence and degrading material in it. But it has been proven in normal countries (don't know bout japan) that porn does not link to an increase in rape. Rape is a sickness and a total oppersite of most porn movies. In the us for example the focus is on willing participation (usually) and enjoyment. I think jwomen need to toughen up and get the laws and thinking here changed. Proper sex Ed and a focus on loving relationships. Many woman mr buggerlugs knows here would like better laws and sex Ed for their male compatriots but there is very little done. Also doesn't help when stupid government officials scoff at the issue. So jwomen. Remember eyes groin. Teach ur boys/husbands/partners to love and respect you. Take action. Just to be clear. Mr buggerlugs does watch porn. So does mrs buggerlugs. All our kids see is a loving couple. (fight behind closed doors).

This might be true, however rape and molestation is not so prevalent in porn in other countries, this may well suggest a link. It just seems a little too acceptable in Japan. The lack of respect for women and their rights is quite sad.

How about one showing that real rape and molestation are more prevalent in Japan?

I am not holding my breath. But just let me explain this concept to you: porn is a vehicle for a release of tensions. How it released tensions is not nearly as significant as the simple fact that tensions were released.

I hate Japanese porn... In fact I don't care for porn much. I prefer the real thing. Does it play a factor in rape? I think it does IN SOME CASES. It adds to the frustration young men who are crazed with testosterone feel.. so they act out on their fantasies the way they see portraid in the adult video's in some cases. NOT ALL CASES though.

aerockyulhim is right about the lack of sex education and moral education for Japanese kids. Yes, Japanese students have a moral education class, but that's when they make signs for Sports Day and other events. It's also where they learn NO DRUG, and no reasons.

I work in the schools and I talk to many parents. Japanese schools teach sex ed but it is usually a task given to the youngest teacher, cause no one else wants to talk about it. Besides the fact that the youngest teacher may not have even had sex before and even if may be uncomfortable talking about sex with the students. These teachers are given a cardboard stiff lesson plans with no discussion of hormones and reactions of pheromones. There is no psychological discussion about sex and thus most boys, men, girls, and women do learn about sex through j-porn and hear say.

I had an Japanese adult tell me that his mother told him she found on the street, and she never explained child birth or anything to him. Now this same guy barely talks to his wife and appreciates her 7 day work week with one day off every 2 weeks.

Following the group in a action you know is wrong, would likely just be a group think thing, which gets us to other issues.
