Fukuoka offers cash rewards for hand grenades

FUKUOKA —

Fukuoka Prefecture has become the first prefecture to offer monetary rewards to anyone who reports finding a hand grenade.

According to new rules set down by the prefectural government, anyone volunteering information that leads to the seizure of hand grenades or the arrest of the owner stands to receive a 100,000 yen reward for each grenade, Fuji TV reported.

The move comes after five criminal cases involving hand grenades were reported in the prefecture last year. According to police, some residents also reported finding hand grenades, and one was seized from a car in Kitakyushu.

I think Kudohkai chinpira blowing themselves up in cars by mistake is PRICELESS. My guess would be that the grenades are coming in on the ferry from Korea. It is a common haven for yakuza on the lam and they have connections there.

if they are hand made, whats stopping people from making a grenade and saying they found it for the reward? Surely they aren't hand made?

It doesn't sound easy to make a grenade, but you can make a modified pipe bomb with 7-11 fireworks.

    So, on balance...

Risk of being killed in an earthquake in Fukuoka = very low.

Risk of being killed by an errant driver, or the above kind of whackjob = quite high.

    Useful to know.

And the takana kimchi ramen from Hakaya Stn can be pretty explosive too. My mum and I nearly took out Hiroshima after that leg of the Shinkansen.
