Additional robbery added to list of charges faced by serial burglar

TOCHIGI —

Police in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, on Friday said that they have sent papers on an additional theft to the prosecutor’s office in the trial of a 40-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of committing 15 robberies in four prefectures.
The man, who has been named as Shuichi Fukuda, was charged with stealing 400,000 yen worth of belongings before the latest theft was uncovered, Sankei Shimbun reported Friday. The additional charge relates to a theft from a property in Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture, in which 100,000 yen worth of belongings were stolen.

Fukuda is accused of illegally breaking and entering homes in Tochigi, Ibaraki, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, encompassing both Tohoku and Kanto regions, between September and November of last year. Fukuda was eventually arrested in December of last year for stealing a video camera and other goods, at which point police began to uncover his other crimes.
