Members of the public in one Osaka town have been living in fear recently after a gang took to cruising the streets at night and pelting pedestrians with eggs from the window of a moving car, at one time even stocking up on as many as 50 eggs.
Police in Osaka’s Suminoe-ku announced on April 30 that they had detained three high school students and one company employee, all male and aged between 17 and 19, on charges of assault.
Police began receiving reports from locals over the past two weeks of a group of males throwing eggs from the window of a moving car, with one 23-year-old woman taking direct hits to the head and back as she cycled home from her part-time job late one night.
Police eventually tracked down the gang and brought them in for questioning, whereupon it was discovered that on at least one occasion the young men had purchased 50 eggs before hitting the streets to ensure they had plenty of ammo to sling at members of the public.
“It was funny to see people’s shocked reactions,” one of the boys reportedly admitted to police. “We got about six people on the 20th alone.”

As it may sound funny, I doubt anyone actually knows how dangerous this "prank" can actually be. About 10 years ago I was hit by an egg by some group of youngsters speeding by in a red car while waiting at a bus stop late at night omw home from evening classes. It didn't hurt me much, but when I got on the bus, there was a Hispanic man who was bleeding from his head and stating that he had also been hit in the head from the same car. Now eggs may seem wonderfully harmless, but any object thrown from a speeding vehicle that shatters into nice sharp little fragments (and I haven't even mentioned the increased danger of salmonella) just needs to hit the right spot in just the right way and someone's prank can drastically injure someone.

First, young punks were attacking the homeless with eggs, now it's pedestrians in Osaka. Not only can this be dangerous (as HonestDictator says) but somehow, I cannot understand people wasting food. I think a fitting punishment for all the perpetrators would be to allow them only water to drink (no food) for a week.

No yoke, this is a serious matter. No wisecracks, please. Throwing anything from a car at high speed is dangerous. Besides that, what is the point terrorizing total strangers? Seeing people's shocked reactions? This is what bullying is about. What a bunch of dumb clucks. Amazing that a company employee and high school brats were involved in this. You must wonder who egged who to do this. Results of this idiotic and dangerous prank will be that the company employee losing his job, the high school brats being suspended and all having to pay fines. They might also get sued by their victims. So in the end these creeps will end up with egg on their faces.
I hope the judge in this case is a gourmet, who will be not only outraged by these eg[g]regious assaults but also by the heartbreaking waste of fresh eggs.

The boys hatched quite an eggciting prank, but the victims did not think it was very funny. Although they did get the yolk, they were suffering from shell shock.
These rotten eggs might have stopped after a dozen times if not for the ringleader egging them on.
When the police started chasing them, they scrambled, but as fast as their car was, it was not all it was cracked up to be.

I hope they weren't egged on by family or friends. It may have been funny to them how the locals scrambled for cover but in the end the prank didn't go over easy.

It's actually almost impossible to throw a raw egg with accuracy due to the inside being liquid, though a hard-boiled egg can be thrown with accuracy. Nevertheless, if you hit someone in the eye with these things the result is serious. The stupidity of these individuals is astounding and they should be candidates for the rattan/cane.

From top to bottom of an egg is an extremely strong structure, if it hits exactly right it will bloody hurt. Apart from that its just a bunch of kids messing about. Give em a slap on the wrists, instill some fear, perhaps even charge them for the cleaning and new clothes and let them go.
