Why is a 73 yr driving anyway, knowing he has impaired vision? Regardless of he was not wearing glasses or not, he should be held accountable for vehicular man slaughter. According to the laws(i may be wrong), all drivers are professional upon reciept of their drivers license.

this judge is talking out of both sides of his mouth. it`s too bad. the 73 year should be held accountable especially since he was not wearing his glasses - as required.

I agree, however, good relief for prison authorities, looking after 73 year old must be a tough job !

Is he 75 or 73? However, he wouldn't be any good in prison, he will be only waiting for his coffin to take him out.

The suspended sentence strikes again! Great work judiciary system!

They seem to dish out suspended sentences like candy at birthday party. How many more of these irresponsible drivers are there around? Hundreds? thousands? millions?

The Japanese Justice system works in mysterious ways. It only took three years to suspend an 8 month prison sentence another three years. He would have been 72 yrs old serving the eight month sentence if it was given to him after the accident. I hope that take away his driving privileges permenantaly.

Why do people think a suspended sentence is inappropriate? DO you know the facts of the case, the circumstances surrounding the offence, the defendents background, criminal record, service to society ? Did you attend the trial?

Let him go home as longest he stay out of trouble. There are bigger criminals that should be behind the bars instead of him.

Why do people think a suspended sentence is inappropriate?

I am not sure why it would be inappropriate, but it seems like the society's norm to look the other way on crimes committed by thier citizens and the punishments given to them. If it was a foriegner in the same situation, do you think it would be a suspended sentence, or would it be jail time and/or deportation?

Good answer, also, he probably driven home with his glasses on after the trial. Maybe they could of just given him community service and had him doing the street beautification work near the area where he murdered the lady. That would free up the prison system and save the taxpayers money on contracted city labor force.
