High school girl arrested for stabbing mother in Osaka

OSAKA —

A 17-year-old girl was arrested for attempted murder on Wednesday after she stabbed her mother in the street outside their home in Izumisano City.

According to police, the girl waited outside for her mother to come home, and at around 7.40 p.m., she stabbed her mother twice in the back with a kitchen knife. A male passer-by called police, and the girl was arrested. The mother’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The girl was quoted as saying: “My mother didn’t do the housework, and I was left to take care of my two younger sisters. And I’ve got a part-time job as well, so I had no time to hang out with my friends. I thought the world would be better off without her. That’s why I did it.”

A lot of disfunctional families out there. I feel sorry for these kids with these terrible parents though. See them all the time.

Guys, we're talking a 17 year old (disturbed) mind here. Priorities are all screwed up, social life is right at the top of the heap. So we have a disfunctional family with, as soldave probably rightly points out, an absentee father, a slug for a mother and a high school girl being used a to rear two young childern. I really hate to see teens screw up their lives like this. Permanent solution to temporary problems. At least she didn't kill the two siblings, so she was selective.

why does Japan Today post these sensational crime stories at the top of the page? what does this say about JT? what does it say about it's imagined audience? or is this what foreigners in Japan want to read about instead of political or economic news?

Ban all sharp objects and high school girls!!!!! Immediately!!!

Sorry, just anticipating the government response. As anything will be said rather than facing the reality that Japan has serious problem with mental health now.

Ignore it but it WILL NOT go away. The government had better get serious about education, support, better mental health care and propaganda to remove the stigma associated with getting help.

Fail to do this and we will continue to hear such stories.

Parents do not nurture their children here. My wife is a perfect example. They just feed them and send them to school to get nurturing from their teachers (if they are lucky) and then complain to the teachers because the kids are problematic at home. As a result, the whole society is full of these disillusional potential psychopaths with the emotional age of three.

Not doing house work has nothing to do with politics, economy or money. This Mom must be very lazy. Girl has not right to stab her own mother, this is roll of husband to guide his wife. However, I don’t blame entirely girl, she even work part time, and she should be spared jail term if any imposed.

hahaha, come again chief? a husband is quite entitled to 'guide' his wife with a bit of a stab every now and then?

Inscrutible Japanese? I wonder who came up with that expression. Piss them off and turn your back. You'll see scrutible. Make them happy or sad. You'll see scrutible. They're like people the world over exccpt their excuses seem to be much sillier.

Why are suicide or murder so often the answer to simple problems here in Japan? Maybe high school classes on why these are NOT good choices would be a good idea. Damn, ruin your family and your life because of "stress".

Every person is like an egg... apply too much presure, and SNAP! I hope the mother will find it in her heart to forgive her daugher! I hope the daughter will realize, maybe when she grows up a little, that what she did was wrong!
