Hooded assailant cuts high school girl’s hair before fleeing on bicycle in Miyagi
MIYAGI —
A 17-year-old girl had her hair cut by an assailant as she was on her way home in Ishinomaki City on Sunday night, police said.
Police said the third-year high school student was walking home by herself when she was approached from behind by a person on a bicycle just before 9 p.m. The girl could not confirm if the assailant was male or female, as the person was wearing a dark hooded top and dark pants, and didn’t speak before riding off into the night.
Police said the girl was not injured but lost around 10 centimeters of her shoulder-length hair.

That 'hooded assailant' is real good can cut hair while riding a bicycle. I know people in the US that cannot walk and chew gum at the same time to save their lives.

Being that the assailant was disguised and on a bicycle, I don't think it would be too far off to suspect that this assault could have been committed by a schoolmate with an obsession with her.

Seems to be a copycat from the movie "3 angels for charlie, full throttle", which was last weekend on TV. In this movie though, the lady detective and the cutter were both riding moto-cross bikes. Also in the movie, the cutter was dressed in black, and had a black helmet.

This is one case where I can't roll my eyes and say "ah, Japan"! here in the UK when I was 18 some git set fire to my hair in a bar!!! I have crap hair anyway so no great loss and I only lost a couple of inches off the end, but this story is a little freaky - a phantom hair-cutter ona bicycle. Wasn't there a dodgy 80's thriller movie about this?

I am not usually one to push the panic button, but I doubt it in this case. Going so far as to attack a random innocent person with scissors, even just to cut hair, smells to me like a case that will escalate into worse crimes or at least contiinued attacks. There are many instances of random slashers in Japan. I am sure they start small too.
I might agree he will probably not do it again even if he were caught and released and at least got a little brush with the law. But what I actually hope for is some time in jail, not years, but perhaps weeks. I also hope he gets a good psych evaluation.
Anyway, I am not laughing about this at all.
