Hungarian man arrested at Narita airport for drug smuggling
NARITA —
Police said Thursday they have arrested a Hungarian man at Narita airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into Japan.
The man, aged 32, was arrested on June 18 when it was discovered that he was transporting a kilogram of an illegal stimulant in his stomach. When immigration officials made the discovery, the man complained of abdominal pains and confessed that he had swallowed the drugs in seven separate packages.
Police say the drugs had a street value of around 80 million yen.

This, drug mules, are every day events, now it is a Hungarian, next could be a Colombian, next an African, sure Japanese why not, people want to make easy $$$ and this is what happens when they get caught.

I'm not a buyer of drugs in Japan - but why would he want to sell his drugs in much cheaper countries like Malaysia and Indonesia - when he could make a considerable fortune by selling them onto buyers in Japan? There is a huge market for stimulants in Japan - and this mob pays handsomely. Should have swallowed them triple-bagged though...

Not very clear what happened. Immigration doesn't check for drugs, they process your passport, Customs searches for that type of stuff. Also at what point was it discovered? Was the man sick when he got to the immigration officer and they question him on being sick (there's also a health station before immigration at NRT), or was something suspicous about the guy for immigration to question him, then the drugs were discovered? Or was it Customs not immigration who thought something was up?

The last time I went through there, they eyed me with suspicion too, and wanted to check my luggage. But as soon as they saw that I have a Japanese wife (spouse visa), they waved me through! One rule for one, one for another!
