TWO YEARS OLD?!?!?!?!? i don't know what else to say. beggars belief

papasmur: Read the article please. It crossed the line. No if and or buts. The use of reason to obscure justice and to obscure what is morally acceptable, is another issue, although quite an interesting one. I think someone said "You know it when you see it."

  • papasmurfinjapan at 10:55 AM JST - 11th June

OneForAll Yes, in many cases one does know it when they see it, but turning that into a legal definition is difficult.

I did read the article, and please read my post at 09:00 AM JST - 10th June. I agree that, provided the police did their job correctly, then it must have been something more than just normal baby snaps to warrant the arrest, and she should be charged accordingly. But among all the comments denouncing the action (including myself), I also feel the need to play devil's advocate here... what if they were just normal family snaps? Where is the line drawn?

    @SweenyTodd

There are several in this thread who believe that no harm was done to the child. You calling them all pedos now?

Chances are good that shoe fits anyone who thinks the legality of child porn should be for debate.

There's very limited information here... what did the pictures contain - kid in diapers playing upon a beach ? Or something more Sinister....

What was the motivation for the Mother and what harm has been done to her Child ?

I suspect that she's strapped for Cash and took some "innocent" pictures which are now being over-played as hard-core porn... Hopefully I'm right on that one. However the Manipulator - in this News Story is perhaps, the person who needs to be put away... feeding upon peoples plight/desparation.... what do you think ?

For those of us with Kids, have you ever taken a picture of your Kid playing in the bath ... is that Porn. I've even got one from when I was a kid!... so does that make my Parents potential porn criminals ?

What's disturbing however, is that In Japan, you've only got to walk into one of the local convenience stores and encouter the "Child" Porn experience, albeit drawn pictures. Why isn't that the focus of attention ?

    Don’t be ridiculous.

Taking your kids' pictures as a family interest is one thing. Selling them to raunchy magazines or putting them in auction is quite another. It’s so pathetic and disgusting. What sort of parents would have an ulterior motive for such an immoral act of prostitution/solicitation?

I have a hot tip for Tokyo police, go into any of the DVD shops in Akihabara and you will find DVD's of 5 year old girls in their underwear being sprayed in liquid (usually milk) until their undergarments turn tranclucent.

Oh, sorry, these are legal in Japan..

    Please ignore Jaystones :)

  • womanforwomen at 01:47 PM JST - 12th June

No need to go to Akihabara. It is found in the home collection of DVDs of some people you meet regularly at work. Not joking.

There are some dumb ass Japanese people; they are book smart but when it comes to stuff like this there are stupid. This lady should lose here parental rights and be locked up and reregistered as a sex offender like they do in the states.

amerijap... as I said, depends upon picture content...

Irrational times and irrational thinking tend to go hand in hand.

If you had no money to feed your child, and someone offered to pay handsomely for a few pictures of your kid in diapers... what would you do ? There's a difference between starving and feeding your kid. Where you draw the line, depends upon yourself. Personally, I am thankful not to be in her situation and having to be put into a position of having to make such a decision since I can't make imagine doing what she did... but I can see the desparation.

Japan, isn't the worst of Asia's countries with respect to providing support to those in an unfortunate position, however you've only got to travel around Shinjuku/Shibuya/Ueno to see the tip of the iceberg... and those you see, are the ones fortunate enough to have a plastic shelter in the Park.

mmwk2008.... I don't care about the content. What this woman did is absolutely wrong because she attempted to use her baby to take pictures that could be sold well as pornographic materials. It doesn't matter what the pictures look like. Any adult/parent should be held accountable for the consequence of selling the children's pictures through such an inappropriate means like this. It's indecent, obscene, and utterly profane. Period.

mmwk208 - no matter how desperate for cash, I would never sell a "picture of my kid in diapers" to some stranger (or anyone for that matter!)...

  • helloklitty at 09:37 AM JST - 13th June

by the time the kid grows up nobody will recognize her anymore - big deal

  • UnagiDon at 07:02 AM JST - 14th June

A horrible act, and even vaguely defending it is only slightly less horrible.

  • womanforwomen at 07:46 PM JST - 14th June

so would you also do that to your own kid? Your kid will not know about it but you will remember it very well!!

A middle aged Japanese man said that he is looking for a woman who touched him sensually when he was a 7 year old. this happened in the train and he remembers that the woman must have been 40 years old.
