Ibaraki man arrested after daughter's body found in apartment

Police have arrested a man after the body of his 1-year-old daughter was found wrapped in a blanket in their apartment in Mito, Ibaraki Prefecture, last month.
According to police, Takeshi Saito, 31, is thought to have wrapped his daughter Anna’s corpse in the blanket and attempted to conceal the remains at their home for around two months. Shortly before her body was discovered last month, Saito—who is unemployed—admitted himself into hospital.
He was discharged on Monday and immediately arrested by police on suspicion of illegally disposing of a body, and is currently being questioned by police over the details of her death.

"Illegally disposing of a body" is the Japanese term for murder.

"illegally disposing of a body" is the initial charge so they can hold the suspect. It's easier to prove because there just has to be a body. Later, after the evidence has been gathered and the prosecution is ready, the charge will be changed to murder.

Why did the police (need to) wait for him to be discharged from the hospital before making the arrest?
Was it the father's ploy to stay hospitalized as long as possible to avoid being arrested or was he really that ill or injured? If so, what was wrong with him?

Indeed! Where is the mother? Were they divorced and did he have sole custody of the daughter?

This guy and his wife have been separated. The wife took the oldest and the second child and left the baby girl with the husband. The guy had some disability on his legs and did not work.. He had stayed in the hospital since September 24 with some heart problem (I wonder if the baby was left alone then... ) and was released on October 18.
The mother had seen the baby girl alive in July and the baby had been dead for about a month before she was found, so that is around the time or shortly before the man had admitted himself in the hospital...
