Bob is right. You people need to control your emotions. He must be treated as innocent until proven guilty. Not to protect him, but to protect everyone...........Yeah so let the father in the room to question him (beat him senseless)and hopefully this thing will never make it to the courtroom. I am so glad some of you clowns aren't on the jury. Your thoughts must go something like this i guess.....Yes your honor we the jury find the sicko innocent even though he fled the scene and was on the run for 2.5 years. The fact that he left his fingerprints everywhere and the body was on his balacony in a bathtub doesn't mean much to us at all....it could have been the NHK guy for all we know.

Ichihashi even under arrest makes the police look a bit funny, he does not cooperate, does not talk, does not eat. He should apologize and serve his time.

Personally I'd like to see him fry. Along with the curry woman Masumi Hayashi, Shoko Asahara and followers, that dude that got off with the Blackman murder and all other people who murder on purpose and try to get away with it for whatever reason. These people don't deserve to be part of the human race.

Is he charged with murder yet? I believe the police has yet to prove that he murdered Lindsay Hawker. He is currently charged with dumping the body, right? I am not a lawyer but if he does not talk and the police cannot prove he committed the crime, what then?
Makkun70 at 01:23 PM JST - 16th November
He shaved her head (wikipedia) that to me would be considered tampering with the body. He also tried to decompose the body, again, changing it from one form to another, should be considered in this case. Surely the J-cops are going too lightly on him and should get him to eat?
Kronos at 01:51 PM JST - 16th November
Yeah, that is why he is charged with "abandoning the body" and not murder. They have yet to prove - legally - that he murdered her in the first place.

Even if he keeps his mouth shut throughout the questioning process, they still have ample evidence on which to base charges. Naturally the cops want a confession to make life easier for everyone, however if they can't get one, then they have to use good old material evidence to justify the charges and prove his guilt. If he refuses to cooperate at all, it'll be worse for him when they eventually do prove their case. He's an idiot for not talking and the "nil by mouth" thing is only going to work against him as well. It's natural to say "let the b++tard starve" but his death in advance of conclusively proving his guilt would cause a lot more pain for Lindsay's family, I expect.
I hope at least he is suffering mental torment as a result of what he's done.

I don't think he is suffering mental torment.
He seems to be angry that the Police won't let him go. He wishes they would just go away and stop floating into his field of vision and constantly pestering him. All else is probably blocked off...

Its been just about a week since his capture. Asahara Shoko's has taken 15-years, and he for sure is going to hang (but still hasn't I believe). The curry lady stayed silent for one yeare until the judge declare "death penalty", then suddenly she wants to talk and is on appeals. Here case is over a decade too. So they sure take the xxmn time here going from arrest to execution, no pun intended. I'm sure, talk or no talk, its going to take a long time, several years at the least before the murderer of Lindsey will reach his proper sentence. I'm starting to calm down slightly about it, knowing that he's in captivity. What happens from here on out, and we all hope its justice, will take a very long time. This time next year, we will still be writing about it....or maybe only in our minds. But this case surely stands out as a watershed of J youth against gaijin youth, and in that regard, will not likely be forgotten by us even in the course of our own lives. Long live Lindsay Hunter and her families wishes for her.

Kronos etc. The cops here always take their sweet time to upgrade from the accusation of a minor offence to a more serious one. It means they get to hold the suspect in the cells for longer and gives them a better chance of a confession. It may well be that they upgrade the accusation to another lesser crime at least once before moving on to the murder accusations and then eventually the murder charges. He could be in that cell for quite a long time before he's officially charged at all.

Nothing is ever going to happen to this kid. The Hawker spoke out prematurely after his arrest. In their brief press conference they expressed some satisfaction with the result. In so many words, they expressed a form of closure. It's obvious to me that they may not have been properly advised about Japan's legal system. I can see it from their point of view as it is common for us to not drag things out, to not seek an eye for eye. That's just western culture. We are notalways looking to press charges. Japan is different. To get what might be considered just and fair you have to cry a river and then some. Ichihashi will do some time but soon it will be twisted in ways that will be so blurred to the eyes of justice. Soon Ichihashi will be the victim. Huh? Yeah, mark my words. Get this kid on meds, examine his past mental history. Poor baby. Back on the streets.
fightfan2008 at 06:59 PM JST - 16th November
Stop trying to make this case out to be some sort of representation of the relationship between J youth and Gaijin youth. Its bad enough that Ms. Hawker lost her life; why are trying to turn this into a racial ordeal?

He drank green tea ! Someone I knew who did time said that he could only drink hot water unless he bought a VC drink. As it stands the prosecution have to get as much evidence as they can,Ichiase isn't stupid and probably looked up the law on the net.It has to be beyond a reasonable doubt.I think his rejection towards his parents is the first give away in his confession. It's like he blames them for his position now.My 2yens worth!? 1.He eventually will confess. 2.He'll claim diminished responsibilty. 3.He went out to buy something and came back and Lindsay was dead and he didn't know what to do.4.He'll commit suicide.
Btw it would be nice to hear more about Lindsay in her short young life rather than being linked to her murderer. That's journalism I suppose.
jonswan at 12:25 AM JST - 20th November
Someone should tell this poxy murderer that going on hunger strike is usually done when you are protesting your innocence. Man, we all know you did it so you're not fooling anyone.

Life for the vile man.
I'm not even going to conjure up excuses for his predatory nature towards innocent foreign young women.
It's doubtful he'd even get medicated for his mental problem, when legally he is responsible for tampering with a dead body.
Hopefully, the police will try the usual guilting and shaming techniques, but this man is truly heartless.
