I saw a recent piece about Afghan sentiment that they just wish everyone would go home. While the majority don't want the Taliban back, they also don't want outside influences. They want a local government that leaves local tribal areas alone and allows them to carry on with their isolated world.
The sad point is this mainstream Afghan view is impossible to realize as it is without deoubt that some forces like the Taliban will exploit the opportunity to take over and oppress the general population.
I think anyone who isn't in Afghanistan to fight should truly consider leaving. This is not a winable country.

"all foreign nationals"... I think that really translates "all non-muslims and non-taliban loving muslims". Foreign taliban loving muslims are certainly welcome.

why don't they just build a wall so high so that nobody's coming and nobody's leaving Afghanistan and build their own heaven by smoking all the opiums they are producing.

foreigners out
I sense a bit of Xenophobia here. Oh, and please don't give me that idea about it is because of the west, they killed an aid worker.

maybe the outsiders should focus on helping out the local government rather than actually going in. Use the officials as the in between guys, use them as puppets or whatever... just consider it is always better for the local people to help themselves even when using outside influence. There are many ways to help out countries without having to be present.

I say ISAF should leave afghanistan as quick as possible. Let Hamid Karzai, taliban, other political factions and destiny, make a new kind of afghanistan.
Foriegners who are not afghans/iraqis are hated in afghanistan/iraq. Why carry on,there is no nuclear weapons in afghanistan/iraq . This was the main concern of EU/US/Nato/GWB, which is not there.

here is a person Jpn can be very proud of, offering help in a foreign country..........
what happened to him was wrong, a sad story.....
but Itoh-sans example is one to be admired, Jpn these days has no leaders for the most part just a bunch of blind sheep.
Itoh-san was NOT one of those. Japan as a country is looking for leaders, a way fwd, Itoh-san is an example of how a PERSON can make change.
I myself slag Jpn a lot because imo it deserves a lot of slagging, but in this case, here is a young person who put many others before themselves, someone worthy of praise, to be admired.
Itoh-san, may you rest in peace,

This is a totally basket case country, just hopeless. Always was and always will be. Stay away is the best policy and let them go back to the 12th century where they seem to always aspire to always be. Beyond hopeless and kept that way by Islamic primitivism. 2,000 years later it'll be exactly the same as it is now, tribal factions shooting holes in each other from one border of the fly-blown place to the other. Keep well away. RIP

This Afghanistan mess is beyoud understanding. Even the President Hamid Karzai the so called Govt(?) & leader does not have enough troops to protect Kabul itself & is counting on protection from the UN along with money from other countries. Besides the War Lords will not donate a penny to the present Govt, so why should people from Japan offer to give some help.
We all know the Taliban will take over for this 12th century thinking of so many tribes will continue to fight for the so called sport.
Such a wase of time, to costs, to losses of lives to those helping is to much for me to possibly fathom

EXACTLY. The Western world is crazy to stay there and chase the impossible dream of a democratic country with Sharia constitution.
