Janitor arrested for filming elementary school girls’ toilet in Chiba

A man was arrested Tuesday after a video camera was found installed in the girls’ restroom of the elementary school he worked at in Hanamigawa Ward. Eichi Miyama, 36, was arrested for violating the Minor Offenses Act. He is suspected of entering the girls’ toilet and setting up the video camera some time between September and Nov 21.

According to police, Miyama said: “I like watching girls do their business…I’ve done this several times before.”

A fifth year student discovered the video camera in the bathroom on Nov 21, and informed staff. Miyama admitted to the offense when questioned by officials from the Chiba City Board of Education.

Miyama had been employed at the school since April 2006, during which time no other problems had arisen. The Chiba City Board of Education has dispatched a counselor to the school, and held a meeting for parents on the night of Nov 21.

Think this story goes well with the pornography story today. The stories are not directly related, but the mindset detailed in the other story's comments about what features in JAV is.

What are you talking about? A child peeping out of curiosity and and pedophiles require completely different responses.

Such as to "toast this fool", as FreeInJapan suggests? I said he should get a sentence, and I meant jail. I do not think that will knock the pedophilia out of him, (which he might not actually be as the crime seems more fixated on the toilet acts than the fact they children) but it might teach him to respect privacy.

Yes he is a filthy scumbag. He admit that he done this before, and I wonder if judge will also give him slap on the wrist like to the woman that killed two children. Accused is a NUT and should be in mental institution, for a while, to adjust his screws in his brains. No point to lock him up, because when he come out he will do it again. He is a self styled movie-maker and producer of filth.

I think so, but then again I live in Japan, have done a long time and read the news everyday. when you are filming 5th grade girls in a toilet you are doing something very wrong. do you realise how old these kids are? mcheeky and spider....sigh

Was pretty sleazy, but this is the land of shopping. You would have figured he could have gotten one of those very very tiny cameras like I have in my laptop. Nobody would have ever found it. I am glad he got caught though as that is really wrong.

Am I the only who thinks that suspects have no probelm giving up info in Japan, I wonder how the interrogation process goes...

Another "only in Japan" moment.

Not so much the actually story (although perhaps "only in Japan" do we seem to hear these peeping stories several times a week), but some people playing down the crime or even saying it's not paedophila.

Spider brings up a good point, don't be too quick to label the guy. He may just have a skat/voyeur thing in general and basically, he goes for what he can get. For all we know he would just as enthusiastically tape a female teacher on the Loo as well. This is hardly an 'only in Japan' moment. I won't play down the crime, watching/taping people without their consent is bad, but I would not quickly label it Taiko.
