Surigao is now at the spotlight after Lolong. Surigao is part of Mindanao Island which is refuted to be rich in natural resources. Trouble is political instability in the area courtesy of both Christian and Muslims militants hinders its growth. Western and Japanese outreach programs just feed these militants esp the muslims for secession. Civilians have to play around paying taxes maybe to both of them or to whoever is prominent in the area. These Christian insurgents will never lose ground having sympathizers from some political and religious personas. And they will never lose recruits as young people are basically idealistic and easily swayed and that holding an armalite is a sure way to get money and provisions from simple people who just want to live peacefully. Attacks like this where there is foreign interest reach the media. How about small scale massacre in far flung villages that nobody ever heard. It's scary just knowing things like this do happen in the country I was born with.

Somebody is not happy about the military cooperation agreement between the two countries. Investment in the mining sectors of the Philippines is part of the agreement.
