Champagne DOES give you the worst headache and hangover yet. I doubt she actually drank all those bottles. She probably ordered for whatever group she was with.

    greensatindress:

She probably didn't "order" them at all. The hosts she was with probably kept asking her "can I have one more" and in her drunken stupor she muttered assented.

    Romulus, agreed!

Some may see it as 'the old drunk excuse' but for example in Australia the establishement has a legal responsibility to stop serving people when they are drunk, failure to do so can result in big fines and suspension of licences. The bar would have know she was rotten drunk but kept giving them to her anyway without checking her ability to pay. If it was a couple fine, make her pay. But 10?? Jsut a tad excessive dont you think? Good to see the judge use some commonsense.

jerseyboy, unfortunately judging from past experiences I think not!!

"10 bottles of champagne worth 180,000 yen"

I would say "Something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it," but in this case...

So she was aquitted of a crime, did she end up at least paying the bar bill? The story suggests not in which case the bar got screwed and she got off on the "oh I was drunk" defense. I'll tell you this, even completely sideways you need to pay your bar bill, it's a cardinal rule of drinking in the first place.

Moral of the story: only pay for drinks when you're sober.

Drunkedness is a valid defence under contract law that one was unable to form a contract under contract law, making the contract void. You need to be seriously drunk to rely on this defence.

Well in that case, they must have had pictures because how did the court prove this. Sometimes some people look more drunk than others but are not. Was a test taken, probably not. It seems there is more room to deceive the courts here and they believe you; still on that honor system eh.

Sometimes some people look more drunk than others but are not.

If someone drank 10 bottles of champagne, assumably at some point you are going to become three sheets to wind. Some what simple math is all that would be needed, body weight, % of alcohol in the champagne and time spent to consume the champagne should result in an approximate blood-alcohol level. The bar would have been in a tight spot, either they served her too much alcohol or they were lying about how much she really had to drink.

I'm tellin' ya, most "Bars" don't keep 10 bottles of champagne on hand. The only places that do are the host clubs and it's the boy toys who work there who drink most of it, not the patrons. They get the customers drunk (champagne or other hooch) and the hosts keep pouring down the bubbly and the customer pays throught he nose.

    to tchall

at 18.000 jpy a champagne bottle in a host club or the club was cheap or it wasn't champagne. but you know some girls which goes to host club are married too. but i think that it's normal to you to go to kabakura right? why guy can goes to kabakura and girls can't go to host club ? whats the difference ? maybe if husband was a little bit more kind with their wives she don't go to those spot. the think about that. she ordered she must pay thats all. drunk or not if you order 10 bottel at 18.000 and you know that you have no money it s just that you are stupid. it's same than girl which grabed a taxi without monney last week. it's stupid. generally judge are too nice with women.

Here is another smart woman in Japan. She got what she want and thank you judge to send her home. The point is; 'she shouldn't be served alcohol if she was drinking over limit of her body, and seller should be punished instead.

Wow, a bar that keeps you drunk, and not watering down the drinks?!
