Starviking and McC72: How many of these guys are really innocent? Can you tell me the percentage? Are there thousands of innocents being sent to the death penalty in Japan and the US? We have to try and believe in the justice system we do have...no matter how broken it is. If we did not, I would take revenge myself and not worry about the consequences. But I have to follow the law and the rules or else I would be put on death row just like everyone else. So yeah, it does work for me.
serindipity and McC72: I am also wondering if you have ever had a friend, loved one or family member killed. I am not just talking about an acquaintance. I mean someone you broke bread with. They are sitting across from you one day and the next they are not. If you can not understand that and the wanting to take an eye of the person that took it from you, even if cost you yours, you can never understand. When we need closure and I can make sure I do not have to worry about this person ever again, yes there is some closure. Will it make me feel better that this person is 6 feet deep and can't bother another person again, yes it will.
Eizenhauer, HickorySwitch, and Schutzstaffel: I totally agree with you.
Nippon5: Never hear squat about Singapore, so I guess things must be working great over there.
I few minutes of internet research would tell you that percentage. Its in the news all the time.
And that Narita Airport incident was real. Just some few months ago.
Just last year in the UK, one guy was DNA-proved innocent after spending 26 years behind bar. Forget about the wasted years...If he was ever killed...
So my point is, if even the percentage is 0.1, imagine that guy was you.
Ichya Paradies. Those innocently convicted of crimes have families too. People broke bread with them too. Evceryone who ever met them knew they could never have committed the crime they will die for. But heck, in Japan we have confessions extracted under torture, kangaroo courts that permanently deliver guilty verdicts (that ran as high as 99.97% until very recently), no juries, limited rights to appeal, and so on and so forth.
You can be as vindictive as you like, but most normal sane human beings would not feel better to know that a justice system like this one had possibly just murdered an innocent person to satisfy a blood lust. If that would help you, I feel very sorry for you. People like Mr. Kato in Akihabara, okay string them up. There is no doubt. But many executions here have huge amounts of doubt, and that makes the practice totally unacceptable to many.
Patrick Smash: I am not just talking about Japan. Forget Japan exists. Like I said before, I understand how dirty the system is. Now, let us pretend we are in a perferct world and somehow some nutcase got loose and went on a killing spree. You agree with me on the Akiba guy. That is all that matters. Do you believe in the death penalty or not. Not here or anywhere else. You can call me insane but agree with me afterwards is pretty hypocritical. Read everything I typed, and if you are only reading from what I typed to serendipity and McC72, go back further. And I am sorry, some parents know that their children should have never been born.
McC72: Are you talking about Involuntary Manslaughter, maybe. Vehicular homicide or manslaughter, maybe.
McC72: Still waiting on that percentage. Also, not worried about bringing back someone from the dead. If I did, I would get necronomicon. I am talking about closure. Not having to worry about this man or woman doing something ever again. Second, I would not put myself into that position where I would be that guy.
So what we have here is the fact that someone committed a crime that is punishable by death. They go through the court system of their country. All appeals have been given and they are still found guilty. You are telling me that they should not serve out their punishment because they MIGHT be innocent? That makes no sense. Your thought are based on the chance they might be innocent. What happens if they are not. They have just beat the system. They eat food every day and sleep every night knowing that they don't have to serve the punishment.
Starviking: Are you still here? Read above. If you do not get your answer from that, I do not know what will help you. If the person is clearly guilty, beyond a shadow of a doubt, yes. Please do not go into Japan's conviction rate, already covered and it is off topic. Talking about the DEATH PENALTY.
Hang em HIGH, if it was my family memeber who did such crimes, they would need to pay the same price..sorry, hang em all. make death row empty, the faster the better.
’’ Yasuoka said at that time, citing an opinion poll that showed more than 80 percent of Japanese people support the death penalty." And 90% of the rest of the civilized world are opposed to capital punishment. Ask that innocent prisoner what she thinks of the opinion poll as she is led down the hall to the gallows without even being able to prepare or say goodbye to her family members.

When they committed the crime, they accepted the punishment that Japanese demand. They got what they wanted.

IchyaParadise,
Having that killer killed doesn't bring back your loved one.
There are instances whereby the criminal and the bereaved family develop an unspeakable bondage for good things

So, IchyaParadise - are you saying that closure for the family is more important than whether the person on Death Row is innocent or not?
