I'm just waiting for the Japanese hate directed to the chinese and their "bad, ungrateful character" for doing this. Blame the whole country. Now, we can forget that a pure Japanese burnt 25 odd people and killed at least 4 the other day.
Yeah, I've already heard 'Chuugokujin kowaii na- /Chinese people are scary!' from a few friends today. I'm sure the suspect's family background will also be thoroughly checked for valid visas and work permits.
I don't care if the Hello Work employee was rude, obnoxious, and told this woman that there was no way she would help find her a job. A suitable reply is never going to be to douse her with gasoline and set her on fire.
Didn't anybody tell her that SELF immolation is the proper way to go about setting fire to things on the street? "I wanted to kill myself?" Hell of a way to go about doing it. That poor worker deserved none of this. Burns are horrible injuries. Let's hope she makes a speedy and complete recovery.
How can anyone argue that foreigners can be good for Japan when some idiotic foreigner comes along and sets fire to people?
Way to promote the Japanese mindset of "Japanese people" and "the rest of the world." Grouping the entire planet in one group opposed to the Japanese is extremely narrow minded and only helps to OK the xenophobia often seen in Japan. Also, it doesn't matter whether she was Chinese or not... it was a heinous crime by an individual. Do we criminalize the entirety of Japanese every time a single person commits a crime? Well... on JT people do all too often. Get your head out of the box!
Do you ever start to feel you are watching the collapse of civilization?
No. If so, the collapse of civilization was happening before, during the creation of civilization, and has always been happening. This is just another example of how an individual can deviate from our idea of civilization, nothing more.
i wonder if the Chinese woman has her family here in Japan... maybe she's married to a Japanese man. She says she's Japanese.. I think what she means is that she is either naturalized or a permanent citizen of Japan.. If so, I wonder if the husband had a job.. hmm.
Anyway.. this whole thing is sad.
I understand the unemployed woman, she was frustrated, nobody helped her, most probably she was treated unfairly and she snapped. It is wrong to revenge for your personal unsuccesses to other people but people are weak mentally and sometimes they react without logic. I am sure the chinese woman has psychological problems as other similar criminals, ie. the Akihabara killer.
? I'm sorry, but I don't understand. 'She snapped' is an understatement. She could have set herself on fire instead of some totally innocent woman in the street.

Can't you wait for something a little more productive in life ? Nobody else has raised that issue.

Fan was quoted as telling investigators, ‘‘I have been so desperate as I have been looking for a job but couldn’t find one. I wanted to kill myself, too.’’
Damn, then do it. Don't go taking your rage out on someone else! Has to be the stupidest thing I've heard in awhile
Crazy is crazy. Regardless of where she is from she needs to be locked away. I just hope they focus on the fact that she is a violent woman who needs to be put away, and not on where she is from. I hope the employment advisor makes a full emotional and physical recovery.
First and foremost, condolences to the victim. Regardless of any interaction she may, or may not, have had with the perpetrator, she did not deserve to be subject to immolation; what a savage act to carry out.
She had a bottle filled with gasoline and lit a worker from the Hello Work agency on fire -- that strongly indicates premeditation, intent. The call was placed shortly after 8 am. It stands to reason she was loitering nearby, anticipating the office to open for the morning. Again, it shows a certain amount of forethought. It's hard to imagine that she didn't deliberately target someone at an employment agency to scapegoat, and that it was simply a random, twisted act to hurt someone else (as her words may lead one to think).
In this case, one can only hope it won't get pleaded down, and that a lay jury won't buy into the "crazy" defence this woman laid the foundations for in her statements.

Japan already has its fair share of inter-family stabbing murders, young mothers throwing their newborns off bridges into rivers etc....etc... The number of non-visa related crimes by non-japanese is infinitely fewer than crimes by japanese citizens.
This is a sign that people in this country are starting to not accept the dont make waves, be like everyone else old school mentality. This, and how many other countless other tragedies in recent memory by Japanese and non-Japanese alike. It is a wakeup call for everyone to treat people with the respect that Japanese like to say is so strong in this country.

Lengthy unemployment leads to desperation unfortunately. I just don't understand why she tried to take someone out with her.

She is suffering from serious burns after this assault, but she is scheduled to work as usual on Wednesday. Hello Work means business.
