Police in Kanagawa Prefecture, have launched an investigation after a package containing explosive materials and a threatening letter was delivered to a man residing in the area.

The envelope, which had no specified sending address, was addressed to the personal address of a company employee residing in Atsugi, Fuji TV reported.

At around 7 p.m. on Saturday, the man received an A4-sized brown envelope, which contained a small box and a letter. When the man opened the box, over 10 items that looked firecrackers, exploded instantly. The man suffered no injuries, police said.

According to police, the envelope also contained a threatening message, though details regarding the contents have not been yet revealed.

The recipient of the package had been recently consulting police after having received packages containing abusive materials.

Too bad no return address. Duh

That's a bit bizarre. Why this guy in particular? He's not a gov't official or celebrity. Gotta be a love triangle, a work conflict, or he's doing it himself.

Obviously much, much more to this than meets the eye.

Maybe a disgruntled recently fired employee, that's where I'd put my money. Though perhaps a case of adultery as well? both seem to be common motives in crimes like this.

wha... Japan post did not check the contents, or sniffing dogs? When I a "foreigner" ordered a box of condoms, they surely called/notified my girlfriend, which ended in a sad breakup.

Could be a case of discrimination for disabled people. There are still too many Japanese who thinks that people with disability are inferior. But that's not surprising if you know, that only in the 80ies, disabled persons started (or where allowed) to go out of their home. Before they where hidden in secret in their home, like in a prison. I guess, one reason the disability facilities are really well - one of the best in the world - is, that 'normal' people don't have to much contact points with disabled people.
