    Pivot,

If the student doesn't get arrested for anything for three years, he's home free. If, however, he gets arrested and convicted for anything, he has to do these six months in addition to whatever time he's given for the second crime.

The government should jump on the bandwagon and blame all recents string of killings on this drugs "problem"

    Job scarcity?

Uchida’s defense called for a suspended sentence, saying he did not profit from the sale as he sold the drug for the price at which he had bought it.

    why? hard to believe.

    borscht - cheers, mate.

Must be nice to have the sentence suspended, must be because he didn't have any in his wallet.....that and not being a Sumo wrestler. You have to love Japanese justice. The follow-up story will probably have his supplier as Tommy Chong at the Auto Hobby shop at the Yokota Base.

Lucky him! Suspended sentence, is that because he is a student? I love Japanese justice. Did accused give lead to cops from where he brought this 'plant of God?' Was this sentence under the deal like: 'CATCH ME IF YOU CAN?' WE MUST GIVE HIM CREDIT TO MASTER UP HIS SALES TECHNIQUES BUT HE CHOSE THE WRONG ROAD.

Why he punsih for selling blessed weed? It should be legal in whole world man, seeen. It make the mind calm and the feelings happy and you is in touch with the soul. If it is legal it is good for unhappy person and maybe there is less stabbing and brutal ting in Japan.

    peace man!

Time for the J-cops to go to war... on drugs. Let's repeat Mrs. Reagan's mistake of the 80s.

for a culture that had no real history of marijuana use in the youth, is it wrong for it to be a concern?

It's right for it to be a concern, but the concern should be for the right reasons, and not for emotional, irrational reasons.

If people were allowed to grow their own it would not been necessary for this man to sell it.

Suspended sentence (i.e. slap on wrists) once again. Good job he wasn't a Russian sumo wrestler or he'd be in trouble. Wonder if society here will ever realise what a joke the suspended sentence is.

likeitis - How do you come to that conclusion? People are allowed to grow potatoes but still they are bought and sold.

It seems odd to westerners that Japan takes such a hard line on pot, but if you consider the mentality of the place it should came as no surprise. Japan has a 2,000 year history, a very unique culture and a nation of people with the emotional maturity of a ten year old. Do you really want these people getting high as well?
