Heck, if the government can pork a new airport in Kitakyushu, they could've put this man on the dole and slightly ease his tension.

maybe he's jobless because his knife wielding tendencies are not attractive to employers

Knife wielding old person of the week. It seems to go man then woman than man again...so next week we can expect to see an old knife wielding woman.
Is anyone keeping track on a map with pins to see if there is a pattern here?

He was drunk and swiming in alcohol. Why was he using knive on this man. More details would be good for readers. Was this drunk scumbag after money? Perhaps because he was unemployed, and needed some more money for booze.

Why doesn't this sort of thing ever happen to me? Especially when I'm walking home from a ball game twirling my bat? Man, talk about stress relief. I'd love to run across some drunk nutt-job wielding a knife and thus the perfect opportunity for a couple of free swings.
Don't worry folks, I'd aim low. Right around the knee-caps.

Kitakyushu is notable for getting people off the dole. There was a guy forced off by heartless bureaucrats who literally starved to death there.
