Knife-wielding man who fled from police with infant son arrested in Aichi
NAGOYA —
A man wanted for threatening a door-to-door insurance salesman, and who escaped from six police officers in Nagoya while carrying his 1-year-old son on Wednesday, was arrested Friday morning in Oharu, Aichi Prefecture.
Police said the man was picked up while he sat in his car at about 11 a.m. He had returned his son to his wife on Thursday afternoon, NTV quoted police as saying.
The 46-year-old man, identified as Komyo Inui, was under investigation for using threats and violence against the salesman in the summer of last year. Police were informed that Inui had returned to his apartment in Nishi Ward and six detectives were sent to question him on Wednesday morning at about 10:30, NTV reported.
When the police arrived, they found Inui holding his son in his arms. After being alerted to their presence, he allegedly produced a knife with which he threatened them before making his escape with his son, NTV reported.
Police say they lost sight of Inui soon after he fled, and immediately launched a manhunt. Inui is believed to have stolen the car he was found in.

Always tricky when the suspect is carrying a child. Once he produced a weapon, you have to worry about the safety of the child more than the arrest of the suspect.

Most detectives are not armed, seems like they fell back, called for backup as the guy ran 500yard and drove away in a car.
Of course watch the thumbs go down on this one!

There's gotta be more to the story. Why did he threaten the salesman? Maybe he (salesman) was being pushy and wouldn't leave the guy's house. Need more details!
In anycase, I hope the young son is safe and unharmed.

The detectives here were worried about the kid, but they could have still tailed him.

Of course the guy got away. What do expect from a group of Keystones that also turns away a 17 year wanted person.

Thank the Lordy that the son is okay. Think some anger management classes at least are required for the man concerned.

Mabo, this has been updated. When Elbuda posted the guy probably was still on the loose.
Good to hear the guy dropped the kid safely off with the mom. That means he's not a TOTAL scum.

So you can stalk a women for months and nothing gets done but threaten an annoying door to door salesman and six cops show up?? WTF??

That's right tmarie, and here is another WTF...
Why were six detectives needed to question him?

I think we aren't being told the full story here. Pathetic though that women here get stalked and killed and get less attention.

Without more details it's hard know what drove the guy to such desperation. It may seem irresponsible escaping the police with a child in tow, but to give him the benefit of a doubt, he may had had reasons for not leaving the kid behind. Let me elaborate a bit on this based on personal experience.
I once turned into a one way small road at Ogaki (which was not clearly marked as such mind you) and I had my baby in the back. When emerging from the other end of that short stretch of road, I found myself staring at a koban right at the end of it, with a middle aged policeman gesturing me to pull over which I did. He went to the car, asked me for my drivers license etc, and I was sure he noticed that there was a baby in the back wide awake in the child seat but he told me to leave the car immediately and follow him into the koban. I refused, told him I couldn't leave the baby unattended in the car, took the baby with me and then followed him into the koban to be issued with a traffic infringement notice. My point is, I would not automatically assume any Japanese policeman to behave in the way that I would consider appropriate, even with children unless he showed himself to be doing so, or in an emergency.
On the matter of door-to-door salesman here (sigh) I consider them quite rude in that they always seem to ring the doorbell during meal times and even incessantly which in my case only caused the baby to wake up after he just fell asleep. I don't understand how they think their method of guerrilla marketing would gather them business instead of alienating people to their cause. They're like email spam in a way but at least spam don't ring your doorbell! I can understand if some people (even the normally polite Japanese) could snap especially if they're looking after children at home when these cretins come ringing by.
