Knife-wielding man robs post office in Ibaraki
TOKYO —
Police said Thursday they are searching for a man who robbed a post office in Kasumigaura City, Ibaraki Prefecture and stole 1 million yen on Wednesday. According to a report on Fuji TV, the man threatened two female workers with a knife and demanded money. He then ran out of the post office and got away on a motorcycle he had left running in the parking lot.
The man is described as being in his 20s or 30s, and was wearing a black construction worker’s uniform, baseball cap, surgical mask over his face and glasses at the time of the robbery.

Still a very rare occurrence in a country of 120 million. Sometimes I am amazed at how slack security is and just how easy it would be to rob loads of places. Catch him and set an example on tv.

He should be also charged for neglecting "idling stop".
Actually, this should be already suspicious, leaving a motorbike engine running, while going into a shop, as motorbike engines do not power air-conditioners.

Japan is a safe country, then you ask someone in the city if they lock their door (day or night) and they look at you in utter shock. They never catch these guys...just like the pachinko bandits and conbini knock overs held up with a chopstick... Love it... never worried about getting mugged or shot...as a gaijin at least.

I cant believe this doesnt happen more often. Does a country need a catastrophy to change? I agree with Asago. Everytime i have entered a bank/postoffice, ive had the opportunity to reach over the counter and get away with way more than a million yen. In fact, i saw a lady with stacks of ichi man rolls. 1 million in each stack, about 10 million, at the ATM in the bank with a bank employee trying to deposit the money. It was already in a bag. I could have just snatched the bag. I was sooo tempted to say something embarrassing but my Japanese is not strong enough and kind of afraid they would misunderstand and think im trying to rob them! On another note, billions of yen found in fukushima and returned. I dont think anyone can really understand this culture. The rules are as random as the english language!

Nothing needs to change. It might be easy to rob here, but its only money, and this way, only the lunatics hurt people in the process. Security is also lax because Japan overall is doing something right, something outsiders are loathe to admit they are doing wrong.

So where were the cops...silent alarms..cameras?
BTW, there is nothing random about the English language.

some post offices/banks have security guards
some do not
bank robberIes are very low in Japan compared to other places.
In the philippines I see guards with a shotgun over the should and assault rifle at the ready.
I HOPE JAPAN DOESN`T BECOME A POLICE STATE like AMERICA

You and me both whiskeysour. Its amazing to me how westerners always think the answer is to get more drastic, but completely fail to see that as they got more drastic, everyone else did to match, so they think to get even more drastic. Its the same kind of stupid cycle as an arms race. No thanks. Anywone wants drastic measures and hardcore security is welcome to go enjoy that outside of Japan. We will be here when you realize your folly, if you live to realize it.
