Kyoto man arrested for hit-and-runs resulting in injuries, fatality
Kyoto prefectural police said Thursday they have arrested a man in connection with two hit-and-run incidents, in which two people were injured and an elementary school boy was killed.
According to police, a woman was hit and seriously injured by a lightweight truck while riding her bicycle in the city’s Nakagyo Ward at around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Fuji TV reported. Around one minute later, a truck fitting the same description collided with a second bicycle on which a 66-year-old man was riding with his grandson. Police say the man sustained minor injuries and that his grandson, 8-year-old Adachi Shion, was killed in the crash.
The truck was later traced and its owner, who has been named as 59-year-old carpenter Yasuo Maeda was arrested. Fuji TV quoted police as saying that Maeda was intoxicated at the time of the incidents.
