"a recent trend has shown that some people commit crimes to fulfill their suicidal desire to be given a death sentence."
Those "some people who commit serious crimes to fulfill their suicidal desire...are mentaly ill or suicidal or wish to manipulate the JAPANESE legal system....anyway all these reasons are very irrational...and exposes that mental illness does affect "some Japanese people" who commit crimes.
I guess in that case Japan needs to build a lot more prisons, and sanitariums all over Japan to accomodate the situation.

Death penalty is cruel. It has been abolished in the civilized world. Japan, USA, China, etc - they should reconsider their laws soon to enter the civilized world.

Hard to imagine how anyone could play political games involving death sentences but there you go, LDP politicians are capable of any enormity they percieve as catching a few votes.

Good to know that some Japanese citizens are oposing the system. Normally no one will complain about the J-way of doing thinks. I really hope there will be a public debate about this. Maybe an extended TV program with a large public who are normal citizens? They could expose their reasons and make other people think. Many people did not even think deeply about this matter. Public debate, please!

Spread the word ... Tokyo will get the Olympics if Japan stops the executions

How about this...The emperor won't be dethroned if he apologises that Japan, being another kingdom that prohibits executions, legalises it clandestinally

Maybe I will change my mind about death penalty. Just the thought of some pervert people makes me think they deserve this.
