Marijuana is traditional in Japan, was first banned by the Americans. Meth is so traditional, that was originally developed in Japan. So the Waseda guys are just good citizens who protect traditions. What is the problem?
Himajin at 04:17 PM JST - 18th March
But they only polled 9%.....it hardly rates the 'Majority of Waseda Students' headline. One would think it was 53% of all students.

If students want to get off this 'Plant of God,' they should assist police and DOB in dealers and police should follow up this issue. It is time to act and search all University grounds daily with sniffer dogs. 'GOT YOU BROTHER'

Are you sure?
scores of students from Keio, Waseda, Hosei and the Tokyo University of Science in the Tokyo region and from Kansai University in the Osaka region were arrested.

Just goes to show the Japanese government has no idea on what is actually happening inside it's own country and is "shocked" when it finds something wrong. I'm sort of glad this is focused on Japanese univerisities rather than the foreign angle but I'm sure some sort of VTR doco-drama will be shown on TV so expose the problem.

Ah, marijuana and college. Like love and marriage. It shouldn't be a surprise. ;-)

What about illegal drugs like heroin, cocaine, speed, crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy, barbiturates, and LSD? Do the majority of Waseda students say that they can get THOSE illegal drugs? I think this "Kyodo" guy needs to go back and do some more research. And yes, I know.
usushio at 09:31 PM JST - 18th March
Even if the Kyodo guy did more research he wouldn't find much more. I wanted to answer it, but found that the questionnaire was retarded and misleading to say the least. Most questions were about "illegal drugs" as a whole, so they probably think all that stuff falls under the same category. For instance, "Do you think illegal drugs are dangerous?". Well, I wanted to answer that probably marijuana is orders of magnitude less dangerous compared to stuff like crystal meth and others....but you had no option say that, just your typical multiple choice answers ("yes", "no", "maybe", "no opinion"...if I remember well).
wtfdude at 09:47 PM JST - 18th March
Anybody has a link to the questionaire? I'll like to see how most people score....
jonnydesu at 10:19 PM JST - 18th March
Okay, I messed the math of a bit, 17% plus 36%, that's 53% of the 4700 students, or about 2500 students. That means about 4% of the students can obtain drugs. yeah, guess that is a majority, my bad.
x7x7x7 at 12:37 AM JST - 19th March
johnny : you messed the maths a bit ... and the stats - completely
MeanRingo at 05:09 AM JST - 19th March
You sure did botch JohnnyD. Let me guess. You went to Waseda U, right?
Kathmandu at 06:56 AM JST - 19th March
johnnydesu,
your calculation assumed that those who didn't take the poll belong to the "no access to illegal drugs" group. maybe you should consider your idea of what a "poll" is.
imho, 9% sampling rate is pretty high enough. nhk polls have less than that.

Wait for it! The J-cops are gonna go nuts over this report and attempt to introduce the death penalty for possession of a gram of pot.
