Man arrested after 70-km car chase in Kochi
KOCHI —
Police have arrested a 26-year-old man after a 70-kilometer high-speed car chase in Kochi and Ehime prefectures on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the man, who has been named as Yukihiro Nomura, was ordered to stop by a patrol car after running a red light at around 5:35 a.m., TV Asahi reported. Police say Nomura continued to run red lights as he headed toward the Kochi Interchange around five kilometers away.
He eventually stopped his vehicle in his home town of Shikokuchuo—after being pursued by police for 70 kilometers—at around 6:40 a.m. and was arrested on the spot.
Police say Nomura exceeded the 80 km/h speed limit by 70 km/h at one point, traveling at a speed of 150 km/h.
A female acquaintance of Nomura was quoted by TV Asahi as saying, “He thought if he could make it to his home town, he’d be able to do something. He didn’t want to lose his license.”

“He thought if he could make it to his home town, he’d be able to do something. He didn’t want to lose his license.”
For this action, he should have a lot of time to study before he needs to test to get his license back.
How many have out ran a police radio?

He should do some years of prison time for this. Endangering other lives just so he can keep his measly license is incredibly selfish and stupid.

He was named as Yukihiro Nomura by his parents. I think the article means to say, "he has been identified as Yukihiro Nomura."
He probably won't spend any time in jail but he will probably lose his license. If he had stopped when first asked, he probably could've kept his license. Interesting logic he used.

wow, that's like barely past the threshold when ORBIS bothers to work.

He should have just said he was drunk. He'd have got away with it no problem.

Part of the reason why people try and outrun the cops here is due to their propensity to always book the driver.
This leads to more revenue for the J-cops.
I have never been advised by a cop here only booked.
Even when the road has not been properly signed do they still continue to hand out tickets-I entered a one way system that had no sign.I pointed this out and was laughed at.Needless to say there was a new sign on the road in a week.
The average person has not the time nor the freedom to contest a ticket so it is easier to pay the fine.
If the cops changed their attitudes then it may be the case that people will stop in the future?

Nomura, drove at speeds of up to150km per hour, went through red lights during the chase by Police attempting to bring his vehicle to a halt. He showed a blatant disregard towards the safety of other road users and or pedestrians.Fortunately no one was seriously injured or killed as a consequence of his behaviour. I dont know what the penalties are in Japan but whatever they are I hope he is punished to the maximum.

Oh, come on people! 150 klicks is only 95 mph, and he only touched on that on the Motorway. Lots of people do that every day, and this was early in the morning when there were probably fewer drivers on the expressway. The reason they caught up with him is possibly that he didn't go fast enough.
The interest in this article is the distance of 70 km that he traveled/travelled with the cops on his tail. Wow!
The speeding is only incidental and nothing unusual.

Any idea what penalty he will receive? My money is on that he'll cop a fine and have to re-do traffic school.

Wow. The speed limit is only 80 kmh on "the Motorway"? If so, then they should rename it "the Turtleway".

"Police say Nomura exceeded the 80 km/h speed limit by 70 km/h at one point, traveling at a speed of 150 km/h. " In other words he was cruising at the average speed limit of the rest of the industrialized world.

FYI there is no law here that states that you had to just accept the ticket without a challenge. You CAN take it to traffic court you know, just be prepared for the consequences if you are found guilty that's all.

Hmmm... got minus 4 above. Must be because I didn't take into account his running the red lights to escape. OK, I agree he was a total tw4t and needs a serious jolt.
