Man arrested after 8 dogs found with 1 ton of feces, partially-eaten dog corpses in cage

Police in Tochigi Prefecture have arrested a man for mistreating his dogs, following repeated complaints from neighbors.

According to police, the man, who is in his 50s, was charged with cruelty to animals after eight dogs were found alongside a ton of feces and several partially-eaten dog corpses in a cage in his yard in Kaminokawa last week.

TV Asahi reported that local residents had complained about the smell of the cage, which the man failed to clean, many times over the last three years.

Police say the man is suspected of keeping the animals in a cage measuring just 1.3 meters wide and 1.4 meters high. He neglected to clean the kennel or to remove the corpses of dogs that had died, resulting in the other animals eating their remains, police said.

Oh no, that's just horrible. It makes me sick just reading this. I'm glad his neighbors complained but what a pity something wasn't done sooner so those poor dogs didn't have to suffer like that.

Only took the cops 3 years to get around and investigate. Lightning quick.

They should make the penalty for this kind of cruelty severe. I hope they lock up this animal in a 1.3 x 1.4 cage for at least 10 years.

This is horrendous. Here is the picture of the dogs in the cage if you want to see it.

Put him in the cage as his punishment - not cleaned, of course.

Absolutely appalling!! I'll be interested in hearing what kind of punishment he'll receive for such willful negligence (though I'm guessing it won't be close to enough).

Have respect for animals!

I am with TMARIE, put him in that same cage for 3 years. This guy a monster!!!

1 ton of feces? eeeuw!

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It took 3 years of repeated calls to finally get some action? The cops should have to clean the cage.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

He'll probably get a fine. Nothing more.

It's Japan and they are just dogs. Ever been to a Japanese zoo? Cages are small!

This man needs to understand how it feels to be a dog treated like that...

Abusing and harming animals is only a few steps from harming a person.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Not the best way to wake up and see this kind of horrible news jump out at me. Anyway, do hope the other surviving dogs are helped and that this idiot is arrested for being so evil to these poor dogs up in Tochigi.

"Abusing and harming animals is only a few steps from harming a person."

Certainly a link with animal cruelty in Jeffrey Doahmer's life. I recall reading other serial killers first abused animals.

Don't blame the cops. If anyone is to be blamed it's the Tochigi Prefectural Animal Protection Guidance Center. They are the ones who were receiving complaints from citizens since 2010 and only recently filed a complaint with the Japanese Police.

Thanks, CrazyJoe. I see "hope" in their searching eyes. Life is not always uncomfortable. People aren't all bad. Hope you get to run, roam, and stretch soon. And some good eats.

This is one guy I don't mind being sent to the gallows!!

1 ( +5 / -4 )

One would hope the NPA would question local police as to why they failed to do anything from 3 years ago.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

What a sick bastard. I sincerely hope those poor dogs will find better homes, but a gut feeling tells me they are probably just going to go into a shelter, and eventually put down.

As for the owner, I hope the sentence is severe. A fine, or a suspended sentence is just not good enough.

I'm a true believer of the saying, "What goes around comes around." This d*uche bag will get what's coming to him one day.

Why would this piece of slime keep dogs? For what reason would a sane person keep dogs in a cage? Normal people buy dogs as pets or as guard dogs, guide dogs or shepherds as sheep dogs. Why would anyone keep dogs in a small cage, starving, living in their own filth and eating the dead dogs? I'm at a loss to understand why any person would do this.

Is he completely devoid of compassion? Is he just a sick, twisted excuse for a human being? I don't know whether to be angry or upset... or both.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Will we have a plea of not properly disposing of a corpse? The man is definitely sick. It is horrible to treat any animal with cruelty.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

The offender is obviously not, quite right

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Those bones in the cage are all dog bones, right?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

dogs food

I knew I should not have clicked on CrazyJoe's link to that photo of that cage. Now I'm really angry!

This guy needs to spend some time in that cage.

Wow, those poor dogs. Amazing how cruel some people can be. In most first world countries, a guy like that would get a hefty prison sentence. Be interested to see what Japan does with him.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

when you got to crazyjoe's link, you have to click the pic of the dog cage to see the bottom of the page.

I didn't do that the first time and didn't realize just how terrible it was. Did he never take them out of that? Why?

I can't imagine he'll get a very severe punishment.

Three years of complaints from the neighbours and nothing is done. What a disgrace. And what a pathetic excuse for a human whoever did this. They should feed him to some hungry wild boars....feet first.

A rare story for a country that treats dogs like or better than family.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

dude deuce, sorry, but i can't agree

My understanding is the whole having pets thing is very very recent for the average J folks. Historically it just wasn't done, and even work animals like horses were not used by all averyage farmers, only certain ppl. As such, there is a lack of general basic common sense knowledge about animals that say in America even ppl who do not have a pet will know. Most do not have experience training their dog, or what to do to keep them well behaved, resulting in a lot of neurotic dogs, or don't fix (spay/ neuter) their cats and when they have babies just leave them in a park somewhere, where feral cats then proliferate and get diseased, don't know the difference between an exotic pet like a boa constrictor or raccoon and an animal domesticated to live with ppl (dogs and cats) and just think if they give it food it will be ok and they can keep it as a pet.

I think there is a real problem with animal knowledge/ respect here in this country.

This guy is of course at an extreme end of that.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Disgusting. He obviously has a mental disorder the same as those people you read about who have tons of cats or dogs, or even farms and the animals are over populated, malnourished and living in appalling conditions. These folks believe they're "helping" take care of the animals and can't bear to part with a single one of them. Health hazards everywhere. Sad it took the J-police so long to do something about it. May have done better contacting the Japanese department of health?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

animal abuse is quite common in Japan. The iida, nagano zoo keeps several baboons in a cage only slightly larger than the one in the picture

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

what a sicko. I hope those dogs can find good homes. But I'm afraid they can't be rehabilitated.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

do not buy dogs if you cant take care of dogs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The smell must be indescribable, I am just eating my breakfast and it made me feel sick!! poor dogs.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

woah 1 ton of feces, that's some serious amount of s@#% for real!!!
