Police in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, have arrested a 67-year-old man on suspicion of killing a 33-year-old woman and injuring her 61-year-old mother.

According to police, Hayao Toyoshima attacked Hatsuko Nishi and her daughter Chiharu Adachi with a hammer and a knife on the street in front of his apartment at around 4:40 p.m. on Thursday. Fuji TV reported that Toyoshima lived in the apartment below Nishi. Her daughter was visiting her at the time of the attack.

Both women were taken to hospital with severe injuries. Adachi was declared dead on arrival while Nishi remained in a critical condition in hospital on Friday, police said.

Police found a bloodstained hammer and a knife in Toyoshima's apartment. Police said he has admitted to the crime and quoted him as saying that he got fed up with the noise coming from Nishi's apartment.

Nishi’s eldest daughter, who lives with her mother, said that Toyoshima has complained about noise many times, especially on occasions when Adachi's three-year-old son visited the apartment with his mother.

On the afternoon of the attack, Adachi and her son were visiting Nishi who was attacked by Toyoshima as she returned home from shopping, police said. When Adachi went downstairs to see what what was happening, Toyoshima turned on her.

Same kind of thing here, plus an old boy who spends his days smoking coughing and spitting under our balcony. All very KY i think its a result of no confrontations............. until it boils over like the above story.

Yeah, I think there should be a national campaign about unnecessary or excessive noise. Barking dogs are a plague. But noisy obachan banging away are close behind. I know murder is not the answer but tempers can boil over when it is persistent.

Of course, Japanese society enables this behaviour by listening to pensioners like this complain about noise in their areas, and instead of telling them to stop being selfish, they get their gripes validated when they get childcare facilities or playgrounds nixed.

This bum needed someone to tell him, long ago, that he was being unreasonable, but no, he's a respectable elder whose opinions mustn't be discounted.

I hope wherever they lock him up they put pictures of that 3 year old kid whose mother he killed, and I hope someday he will be able to realise what a selfish person he was, and change for the better.

Absolutely. He took away this child's mother forever for something so ridiculously inconsequential as upstairs noise. He should be forced to look at the consequences of his actions for the remainder of his natural life.

I hope someday he will be able to realise what a selfish person he was, and change for the better.

I hope he dies soon, alone, and miserable.
