Police in Chiba Prefecture, have arrested an unemployed 37-year-old man after he left a stolen car on the train tracks along the JR Sobu line.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Ryoji Uno, stole a small compact vehicle and 5,000 yen in cash from the home of one of his relatives in Yachimata City last Sunday night, TBS reported Wednesday. Uno then drove the car to Sanmu City where he abandoned it on the train tracks early Monday morning, police said.

The car was spotted by the train driver who was able to stop the train approximately 50 meters before impact. All 120 passengers on board were uninjured during the incident.

Police are continuing to question Uno as to why he abandoned the car on the tracks.
