Man arrested for abusing girlfriend's 1-year-old son

Police in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, have arrested a 31-year-old man for abusing his 21-year-old girlfriend's one-year-old son.

Police said they received a call at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday from a woman reporting that her baby was unconscious. Police arrived at the scene shortly after and found the child, Yuto Miyafuku, unconscious on the floor of the apartment, Sports Nippon reported.

Police said they have charged the woman's boyfriend, Yoshimitsu Oishi, with inflicting bodily harm on the child by violently shaking his head which resulted in a serious cerebral contusion.

The boy's mother went out prior to the incident. Oishi was quoted by police as saying that Yuto wouldn't stop crying, so he kept on shaking him.

Oh, yeah! That'll stop the baby crying! Idiot! I suppose the thought never occurred to him to give the kid some food or a drink. Just shake the heck out of the kid until he's unconscious. What a scumbag!

Probably tried to soothe the kid at arm's length - as he was probably held himself - instead of on his shoulder.

The sick pig should never be allowed children of his own, and needs to do a long time in jail. Poor baby, poor mother.

I don't know in Japan but in USA new parents are specifically warned against shaking and against letting parental stress build to that point (don't know how uniformly they're warned).

Still happens, but given that it's newsworthy, doesn't happen often, in Japan or US I guess.

@turbotsat you assume common sense and empathy

This type of thing happens all over the world. any week of the year you will see reports on this in the UK press.

@turbotsat they are "special". They feel that what applies to foreigners doesn't apply to them because their own government has not admitted to or informed them of anything else.

Japan Today removed my last comment because I said something about Capital Punishment.

Far to many men innthis country seem to be mentally unfit. Shooting at you kid, hitting them, shaking them violently... I don't know how many times I've read if boyfriends or "acquaintances doing this. This can only mean one thing (since a normal adult UNDERSTANDS that shaking a small child is unwise): mental problems. I know they bulid up a lot of stress and all here due to not being able to deal with emotions but this is sick. The other day, I watched a mother, engrossed in her "smart"phone (what else) pushing a supermarket cart in front of her with a small baby just lying there like a piece of meat. Boggles the mind to think how such a person treat said kid at home when societal pressure is all but off.

@Knox Harrington,

Mothers are more likely to perpetrate abuse on their kids than men. So women are just as messed up.

Guess I better not post any links to the umpteen threads about women abusing their kids, like the one who left a SECOND corpse at home the other day to go off to work at the hostess club, or what have you. Yeah, there ARE a lot of cases where you have a boyfriend of a far-too-young mother abusing the child from a former husband/boyfriend, but you also have pretty much just as many cases where the mother lets it happen and even was in on it (but doesn't get the same punishment). In this case I'm just glad it was reported as seemingly when she got back from her outing. Am I blaming the mom? not at all, though perhaps her choice in men has a lot to be desired. What I'm saying is that to blame this on men alone is folly.

I hope the poor baby recovers and the mother stays FAR away from this or like-minded men. I also hope the guy does some serious time.

not only is the boyfriend messed up, but the mother is also a bit of a train wreck. 21 years old and already a single mom? and then she moves in with her boyfriend and leaves her kid with him. smh...

Ricky, so a woman whose relationship fails, who choses to have a baby rather than an abortion, should then not have a boyfriend as long as those children are small. Im sure she had no idea this pig was an abusive man. She went out to do something, in a committed relationship, so what? The blame is ALL on this inadequate man.

As this guy was just a boyfriend and not the father, he would not have received training in the States, either.

World coming to. Every day some one causes harm to an infant that has done no more than cry.

I must just be getting to old to understand why this is happening throughout the world and not only in Japan.

IDIOT BOYFRIEND'S GUIDE TO BABY CARE:

A one year old baby will cry for one of four reasons...hunger, diaper change, loneliness, or illness. So if your girlfriend's baby is crying, and you can't focus on your sleep or video games, try one of these handy tips. Give him/her something to eat. If they want more, then they're hungry. Check the diaper. If it's wet or smells, change it. If it's not the first two, try holding them for a bit, or lay down with them. If they're sick, keep him comfortable till mama gets home, or take him to the clinic yourself if it's serious.
