Man arrested for attempted murder of 9-year-old son

Police in Sapporo said Tuesday they have arrested an unemployed 31-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he tried to strangle his 9-year-old son to death.

According to police, the suspect, Tsubasa Suzuki, divorced the boy's mother last December. Fuji TV reported Suzuki waited in his car for his son as he walked home from school at around 3 p.m. on Monday and then talked him into getting into the car.

Police said Suzuki tried to strangle his son in the car. However, he told police he lost his nerve and let go of the boy who suffered only a light injury to his neck.

Suzuki was quoted by police as saying that the boy and his mother were obstacles to his getting married again and that he wanted them both out of the way.

Say what?!?!? How many more Japanese people have this warped sense of reality? Too bloody many!

Complete lack of logic. I would think that being unemployed and having spent time in jail for murdering your own child would be MUCH bigger obsticles...but I guess that's just me

Glad he did not kill his son. At 31, the father had lots of playing field left for a 2nd marriage. But now in custody & charged w/ attempted murder, this cat is truly screwed-

Yeah, I am sure the ladies are lining up to marry this unemployed, attempted child murderer.

I say take away his reproductive organ as punishment, as he clearly doesn't deserve a child nor does he want one.

This is the sick end of the male ego. I like Japan, because at least I am visible here as a man. In the United States, the average man gets no attention. Usually, it is the woman who divorces the man. Then he is treated as a criminal, as if he might do something like this man did. Me, I let her file all the paperwork, take the kid, waited a few months with her "visitation" which was essentially dumping the kid on me every weekend so she could go out dating; then I left town. I got my own life. Met a nice Japanese lady and had two wonderful children. Talk about making my ex-wife jealous. That's how you make yourself feel better. Like a man. Like a decent human being. You don't hurt people. And yes, I visited my son from my first marriage throughout the years and even saw him graduate from high school and get into college. We are still friends.

Yes, that makes perfect sense! I will kill my ex-wife and son, so I will live freely in magical fairyland where unicorns poop rainbows and the police will never suspect me. EVER.

Kenneth Gardner It sounds like you abandoned your kid and replaced him with new ones. He doesn't need another friend, he needs a father. And when you say you wife dumped the kid on you it sounds like you were 'forced' to see him. That's mean.

Anyway, you can have a child from another marriage and find a good person who will accept that. Not sure what this man reacted this way. Maybe he just wanted to hurt his wife the worst way possible.

^Maria, doesn't sound that way to me. He moved on while still seeing his son, met someone else, had kids and still maintains a relationship with his son. More than most divorced Japanese guys do. The guy in the article is a fool and doesn't deserve to see/have access to his child anymore, and should be locked up, the weak little man.

How could a young boy ever comprehend that his own father tried to kill him? I hope he grows up into a well-adjusted young man sans emotional and psychological repercussions.

Un-effing-believable! What an incredibly selfish, self centred b@st@rd he is... Lock him up... THAT'll be an obstacle to getting married again. Git.

I hope his son can erase the mental scars that this will cause in the decades to come.

31 years old wuss had a son aged 9 - got married at 22... they'll put him away for at least 22 years; hopefully his son would have forgotten him by the time he's in his thirties...

My sister in-law's ex husband was trying to get back in the life of his daughter when she was small. Then his new wife told him to sever all ties with his daughter or else. Then my sister in-law couldn't handle her ex-husbands failed attempt at connecting with his daughter refused him any contact. Also, the parents of the ex-husband who live very close by have no interest in their granddaughter. Divorce is very strange in Japan.

This is honestly a new one to me - I thought only mothers killed/attempted to kill their children. What a change of events.
