Man arrested for crashing car into police box in Hiroshima

HIROSHIMA —

Police on Monday night arrested a 44-year-old man for attempted murder after he crashed his car into a police box in Hiroshima. A 15-year-old teenager, who was at the police box with his mother, suffered minor injuries to his neck. A police officer suffered facial injuries after the driver punched him while resisting arrest.

Koji Tanaka was arrested on the spot for attempted murder after he crashed his compact car into the police box twice around 7 p.m. Police said he was drunk at the time of his arrest and denies any intent to kill.

he crashed his compact car into the police box twice around

Twice? he slammed into it, backed up, and slammed into it again? My word.

I kind of agree the guy wasn't trying to kill (although he wasn't doing a good job of trying NOT to kill), just some angry drunk in a car who decided to drive through a koban. Twice.

The new Japan and bad economy equals a violent Japan. The good times are over.

I wonder if there is any connection between the driver and the teenager?

Surprised anybod was hurt, must be one of the new-style police boxes rather than the mini fortresses they used to build to counter the left-wing nutters back in the '70s.

Attempted murder is too much to ask for. Everyone suffered minor injuries. I think he'll get attempted MAYHEM and malicious damage---and punching a cop!! Wonder WHY the teenager was in the koban!!!!!!!!!!!?????????

Yes, he was drunk, and there is no excuse for his action. His intention wouldn't be to harm someone, but we have to face that alcohol and drugs are the effect leading towards crime. Being under influence of alcohol you are like 'Alice in Wonderland,’ and this driver certainly was. A very strong rehabilitation must be forced on him for a long time. Strong prison term should be enforced by prosecution. There wasn't intent to kill but a dream with a roaring machine, and his brains like a jelly fish.

Should have picked one of the 50% or so of Kobans that are empty 24 hours a day -- could have smashed it up and left with nobody any the wiser.

Anyway, guess that's what you have to do to get an officer's attention these days -- ram directly into the place they're sitting.

It may have been his wife and kid in the police box seeking refuge from him.

The only strange thing in this story is that it wasn't in Saitama.

Yeah, a little more detail would be enlightening. But no matter what this one is right from the stupid book. Talk about begging to be abused. This guy is in big trouble, this is a major disturbance in the "wa."
