TOKYO —
Police have launched a search for a missing 19-year-old woman believed to have been socializing with a man since earlier this month who has subsequently been arrested, police said Monday.
Kanako Ishida from Tokyo’s Edogawa Ward met Naoki Shiono, 26, through a dating site on April 5 and the man is suspected of placing her under restraint in his car for several days, according to the investigation.
On April 6, Ishida’s father reported to police that he had received a call from his daughter telling him that she was being taken around by an unknown man, prompting police to start the investigation.
The police identified the man as Shiono and found him in a parking lot in Tokyo last Friday. They arrested him the next day as he was in possession of a stimulant, they said.
Shiono was quoted as telling the investigators, ‘‘We drove together, but she suddenly jumped out of the car in Yamanashi Prefecture. I couldn’t find her since then.’’
He also said he had injected Ishida with a stimulant, while denying the allegation that he had placed her under restraint, according to the police.

Unfortunately she might be dead, I believe they say every passing hour is not good for missing people. I don't like online dating either, too many creeps, wackos, and looky loos.

Hope she will return safe and unharmed. Meanwhile he has denied holding her captive so who is the actual abductor? Hope she will not add up in the list of persons abducted by NK.

there's a big possibility the girl is dead right now... ... OT: look at the ads in this page.. "Meet your Japanese match online" LOL!

you know, this is so very sad. It makes me think that prearrainged marriages may be the best way ( and safest) to go. Meeting somebody just because they meet on the internet or text message each other. Whatever happened to formal dating and having dinner with each others family?

Yeah, very sad and one can only hope the girl is OK. Online dating has a terrible reputation all over the world. I am also concerned with sites like Mixi. I know people who virtually live their life through Mixi and are constantly gambling when meeting people they have met online. Net-grooming comes in many different forms.

Fair dinkum - You got that right mate! Online dating is like a lottery, the only difference is when your number comes up it is not necessarily a good thing. Although I might be wrong, I think that online dating tends to attract the "Johnny Howard" sort of person, somebody mal-adjusted and weak on social skills, the sort of person whose trousers are up around their ears. In the real world, most people would recognize that such folks are "a few 'roos short in the top paddock," however, because of the lack of reality in online dating, it is impossible to pick these loonies out before it is too late. Anyway, I don't think there is much chance of finding this girl alive. I hope I am wrong, however, it does not look good....

And in very bad taste, JT places a dating ad right under the story!

crikey! That was an unfair characterization of all those who use on line dating services. I am sure there are people who met on line and have gone on to develop meaning full relationships

If this woman was stupid enough to meet up with this looney toon and get in a car with him then I can only say that the Darwin awards have a new nominee...

the fact that he drugged the girl is evident enough that he's carrying some hidden agenda with him. if she suddenly jumped out of the car as he was saying, the immediate impulse was for him to stop the car and chase the girl and he would've easily catched her since she was drugged and on foot. i dont believe whatever this man is saying. he might also be lying about the yamanashi prefecture. the police/investigators should cut the crap and begin searching for the body near the area where they found him or trace the place where the girl has made her last call.

greenteaonsens - I can only assume that you are trying to annoy people with comments like that. No one deserves to be drugged and abducted, even if they are careless in who they associate with. Grow up

I think it is pretty certain that the girl is dead. If she was alive, wouldn`t she have surfaced and contacted family by now?

Just saw this at Mainichi. The cops got a call from her when she was with this guy and didn't report it to their superiors. http://mdn.mainichi.jp/national/news/20080416p2a00m0na011000c.html

I, too, read the Mainichi report on yet another bang-up job by the Japanese police. What are they thinking? Well, no bicycles are involved so... back to sleep? They might have been able to save a human's life (assuming she's dead) but instead quote:
Losers.
