Police in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, said Tuesday they have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly slashing a 16-year-old girl during a robbery last Saturday night.
Police identified the suspect as Mitsuru Ikeuchi. TBS quoted a police spokesman as saying that Ikeuchi denied knowing anything about the incident.
The girl was walking home alone at around 9 p.m. when a man approached her and slashed her neck and chest. He then stole her bag and fled. The girl is in a stable condition in hospital but her injuries will take about one month to heal, doctors said.
Police said that Ikeuchi, a demolition worker, was identified by his glasses which were left at the scene of the crime and through surveillance camera footage. He was arrested on Monday night.
Police said that Ikeuchi and the girl had met for the first time earlier on the day of the attack but gave no further details.

I told you so! She probably spurned his advances and pissed him off. When this story was first reported, I said there's something we're not being told, and I was right. But I caught a whole lot of thumbs down and disparaging comments for it. Now what?

Kudos sensei258. You successfully confirmed that speculating over crimes you don't know anything about is a worthwhile exercise for everyone on this forum. Have a medal.

Hunches and snide comments aside, nice work by the police!

They say the girl's wounds will heal in about a month. Not the one inside her mind, though. She'll be looking over her shoulder, physically and psychologically for a long, long time. God help her when the next guy shows an interest.

Sorry, poorly written, imho
sounds like a robbery went wrong, almost a mistake, somehow botched,
but when you read on to what actually happened, it sounds like the knifing was as much a goal as the "robbery", it was an attack.

So they had met, huh? What the hell is wrong with people?! A koyaji, knifing a young girl? If they had met, and she snubbed him, she was apparentely clever enough to realize this guy was a weirdo. Too bad it had to come to this.

I hope they put him in prisoin for a long long time. They need to start making it very bad for anyone to committ such evil crimes.
