Man arrested for stabbing woman in Yoyogi area on Dec 4
TOKYO —
Police on Thursday arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of stabbing a 36-year-old woman in Tokyo’s Yoyogi area earlier this month.
According to police, the woman was heard screaming near Minami-Shinjuku Station on the Odakyu line at around 11:20 p.m. on the night of Dec 4. A bystander contacted emergency services to report that a woman had been stabbed and was seeking assistance, TBS reported.
Police arrived at the scene to find the woman in a nearby residence, where she had gone to seek help. The woman, who was on her way home from work, had been stabbed five times in the back and the abdomen. She told police that she did not know her attacker who had been dressed in black, TBS reported.
On Thursday, police identified the suspect as Kohei Kashiwabara, unemployed and of no fixed address, TBS reported. Police said that surveillance cameras in the area had revealed a man dressed in black walking along on several occasions.
On Tuesday, Kashiwabara was spotted again in the Yoyogi area and questioned by police, TBS reported. Police said he has confessed to attacking the woman and led them to the knife which he had thrown away near the scene of the attack.
He was quoted as saying he did not know the woman but has so far given no motive, police said.

I'm glad that they found him, but I have to wonder how thorough their investigation of the crime scene was, since after all this time, the perpetrator "led them to the knife which he had thrown away near the scene of the attack". Perhaps this is just because of how "near" is being interpreted, but perhaps it's an indication of a lack of diligence.
