Man arrested for stabbing younger brother in Aichi

A 21-year-old university student was arrested for attempted murder on Sunday, after he allegedly stabbed his younger brother in the back in their Chita City home.

Genki Ebata, a third year student at Shukutoku University, is accused of stabbing his 20-year-old brother just after 1 a.m. Sunday as he was standing in the kitchen watching TV. One of his parents called police and Ebata was arrested for attempted murder. His younger brother was rushed to hospital and is in a stable condition, police said.

Ebata told police that he hadn't spoken to his brother for about eight years, and that he harbored a resentment against younger people since being bullied by one in his past.

Did the parents just turn a blind eye to this?

They hadn't spoken in eight years!!!!! And the parents allowed this situation to continue???? So the brothers stopped speaking to each other when they were 12 and 13 years old!!!! Nice parenting there to allow the communication to cease between brothers. No wonder the volcano erupted!!!

Betrayal!!

The irony, is that he was a communications major. What could the parents do, they Didnt speak to each other, or the kids, for 10 years.

Sadly, brothers here don't usually get along well. Back "home" it is sisters.

8 years and no talking... great parents.

That would have made them 12 and 13 when they last spoke. Another product of the Japanese middle school system. Unfortunately Genki is still living in the 7th grade.

Well his name is "Genki", so he just got a little excited and gave his little brother a jab in the back to wake him up! Pffff. Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Wow! 8 years in the same house and not a word to each other? And if I went off on everyone who has rubbed me the wrong way, I would be dead before I could scratch everyone off that list. Move on. Life is better than that foolishness. Lol

They usually aim to stab in the neck here so this was obviously a mistake, and plus he is not from Saitama.

ratpack: Exaclty! Unbelievable that parents would allow a situation like this to continue in their home. Can't even imagine what this household would have been like for the 8 years. I almost don't know what is worse--the older brother stabbing the younger one or the parents being such neglectful, uncaring, idiots!!

The family is a cult example of communication gap. The parents might took 'shoganai' policy.

Did they actually LIVE together? How do you go EIGHT YEARS without speaking to each other if you live together, particularly in tightly-packed Japanese lodgings? And he was bullied by younger people at some point? WTH? who cares? Twenty years old is hardly much different from twenty-one years old, and he's your BROTHER.

Wow. Just... wow.
